Odisha: Coal India Limited (CIL) has received a Letter of Award (LoA) from GRIDCO Limited, Odisha for developing a 320 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project. The company disclosed the development under SEBI (LODR) Regulation 30 compliance dated 30 April 2026.
The project aims to strengthen grid stability and support renewable energy integration in Odisha.
Project Capacity and Location Details
The BESS project will have a total capacity of 80 MW / 320 MWh (4 hours storage system) and will be developed across two clusters:
- Cluster 1: Padampur and Bolangir
- Tariff: ₹3.04 lakh per MW per month
- Cluster 2: Bhatli and Basta
- Tariff: ₹3.05 lakh per MW per month
Investment and Execution Timeline
- Estimated Project Cost: ₹400 crore
- Execution Period: 18 months from signing of BESPA (Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement)
Key requirements for Coal India include:
- Submission of required documents within 20 days
- Signing of BESPA thereafter
- Submission of Performance Bank Guarantee (PBG)
Contract Nature and Compliance Details
The company clarified that the contract is a domestic order awarded by GRIDCO Limited on an arm’s length basis. It does not involve any related party transactions.
The disclosure was made in line with SEBI Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements (LODR) Regulations, 2015, ensuring regulatory compliance and transparency.
Role in Clean Energy Transition
The project is designed to support energy storage infrastructure, which is essential for balancing power supply from renewable sources like solar and wind. Such systems help improve reliability and efficiency in the power grid.
