Kottayam: A man from Kottayam in Kerala was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor after posing as an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer on social media and promising to marry her. Police have also found that the accused allegedly cheated several people by collecting money while falsely claiming to be an IPS officer.
The accused has been identified as Adithyan of Vadavathoor.
The case came to light after the minor’s family approached the police following the alleged assault and the accused subsequently distancing himself from the girl after she became pregnant.
Man Allegedly Posed as IPS Officer on Social Media
According to the police, Adithyan befriended the minor girl through social media while allegedly posing as an IPS officer.
During their interaction, he reportedly gained her trust and allegedly promised to marry her. Police said he subsequently sexually assaulted the girl.

The situation came to light after the girl became pregnant. According to the police, the accused then began distancing himself from her, following which her family lodged a complaint.
POCSO Case Registered, Accused Arrested
Following the complaint, Kottayam West Police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and arrested the accused.
The investigation subsequently uncovered allegations beyond the sexual assault case. During the probe, police reportedly found that Adithyan had allegedly approached and cheated several people by falsely presenting himself as an IPS officer.
Police said the accused had allegedly collected money from multiple individuals while maintaining the false identity.
Police Probe Alleged Cheating Cases
The police are now looking into the alleged financial fraud involving the fake IPS identity.
According to the police, separate cases relating to the alleged cheating incidents will be registered after complaints are received from the affected individuals.
The development indicates that the investigation into the accused’s activities is continuing and could expand as more people come forward with complaints.
Accused Remanded in Judicial Custody
After his arrest, Adithyan was produced before the court on Saturday and was subsequently remanded to judicial custody, police said.
The investigation is expected to focus on the circumstances surrounding the alleged sexual assault, the use of the false IPS identity and the alleged financial transactions involving other victims.
