Patna: In a significant move to address the growing drinking water shortage in urban areas, the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (BUIDCO) has started work on 21 water supply projects under the central government’s AMRUT 2.0 (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation) scheme.
These projects aim to ensure clean and continuous drinking water supply to lakhs of urban households across the state.
₹2451 Crore Investment for Water Infrastructure
The total estimated cost of these projects is ₹2451.39 crore, marking one of the largest urban water infrastructure upgrades in Bihar in recent years.
The initiative focuses on building a modern and efficient water supply system that can meet the rising demand in rapidly growing cities.
Progress Status of Projects
According to the latest update:
- 9 projects are currently under execution
- 9 projects are in the tendering stage
- 3 projects are in the proposal stage, where DPR (Detailed Project Report) is being prepared
This shows that work is progressing at multiple levels simultaneously across the state.
Key Cities Covered Under the Scheme
Work has already started in several major urban centers, including:
- Patna (Phase-1)
- Gaya (Phase-3)
- Samastipur (Phase-1)
- Munger (Phase-1)
- Khagaria (Phase-1)
- Lakhisarai (Phase-2)
- Kishanganj (Phase-3)
- Sitamarhi
Each city project is aimed at strengthening and modernizing the local water distribution system.
Focus on Modern and Reliable Water Systems
The projects include major upgrades such as:
- Replacement of old and damaged pipelines
- Expansion of water distribution networks
- Improved coverage to ensure uniform supply
- Upgradation of water treatment plants
- Adoption of modern technologies for better water quality
These measures are expected to significantly reduce water leakage and improve overall efficiency.
Strict Monitoring and Quality Control
BUIDCO Managing Director Animesh Kumar Parashar has directed officials to ensure that all projects are completed within the stipulated timeline and with high quality standards.
He emphasized regular on-site inspections by officials and submission of detailed progress reports to ensure transparency and accountability in execution.
