New Delhi / Bhilwara: In a major step toward strengthening India’s critical minerals value chain, Hindustan Zinc Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sulfozyme Agro India Pvt. Ltd. under its Zinc Industrial Park initiative at Khankhala, Bhilwara, Rajasthan. The partnership focuses on sustainable zinc metal recovery and downstream value-added manufacturing.

The collaboration marks another milestone in the development of a dedicated industrial ecosystem aimed at boosting domestic zinc processing and reducing dependence on external value addition.

Sulfozyme Agro to Set Up Operations in Zinc Industrial Park

Under the agreement, Sulfozyme Agro India will establish manufacturing operations within the Zinc Industrial Park, focusing on converting zinc-based materials into value-added products for industrial use.

Hindustan Zinc will provide:

  • Assured long-term raw material supply
  • Integrated industrial infrastructure
  • Access to a specialised manufacturing ecosystem

This ensures operational stability for Sulfozyme Agro while strengthening India’s zinc processing capabilities.

Integrated Manufacturing Model to Strengthen Value Chain

The Zinc Industrial Park is designed to integrate the entire zinc value chain—from raw material supply to finished products—within a single industrial zone.

Key benefits of this model include:

  • Reduced supply chain uncertainty
  • Lower production and logistics costs
  • Higher value addition within India
  • Increased efficiency in zinc processing

The initiative is expected to enhance domestic manufacturing competitiveness in the metals sector.

Zinc Industrial Park Backed by Government and Industry

The Zinc Industrial Park was first announced at the Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit 2024 by Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma along with Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal.

Developed in collaboration with RIICO (Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation), the park aims to create a modern industrial hub for:

  • Zinc downstream industries
  • MSMEs
  • Value-added manufacturing units

It provides plug-and-play infrastructure and proximity to Hindustan Zinc’s mining and smelting operations.

Strengthening India’s Critical Mineral Ecosystem

Zinc plays a vital role across industries including:

  • Steel galvanisation
  • Automotive manufacturing
  • Construction
  • Batteries
  • Agriculture and micronutrients

India currently consumes large quantities of zinc, with Hindustan Zinc supplying nearly 74% of the domestic primary zinc demand.

The industrial park aims to ensure that more zinc is processed into finished goods within India, increasing domestic value capture and reducing export of raw metal.

Expanding Downstream Manufacturing in Rajasthan

The Sulfozyme Agro partnership is part of a broader effort to attract multiple investors to the Zinc Industrial Park. Each new unit is expected to strengthen:

  • Supply chain integration
  • Industrial clustering
  • Employment generation
  • Regional manufacturing growth

The initiative is being positioned as a long-term industrial transformation model for Rajasthan.

Focus on Sustainability and Circular Economy

Hindustan Zinc said the partnership aligns with its commitment to sustainability and circular economy principles. The company has been globally recognised for its environmental performance in the metals and mining sector.

Key sustainability highlights include:

  • EcoZen: Asia’s first low-carbon green zinc brand
  • Water Positive certification (3.32x)
  • Net Zero commitment by 2050
  • Top global sustainability ranking by S&P CSA

Company CEO Arun Misra said the Zinc Industrial Park will serve as a collaborative platform for downstream value creation and industrial innovation.

Building a Future-Ready Zinc Ecosystem

The MoU between Hindustan Zinc and Sulfozyme Agro marks an important step in India’s effort to strengthen its mineral-based manufacturing ecosystem. By combining raw material security with integrated industrial infrastructure, the Zinc Industrial Park is expected to emerge as a key hub for value-added zinc production in India.

About Hindustan Zinc
