Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is preparing a major welfare initiative aimed at ensuring housing and healthcare security for eligible women across the state. Under the plan, women will be linked with flagship schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Chief Minister Awas Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, and Mukhyamantri Jan Arogya Yojana.
The Women Welfare Department has already begun collecting beneficiary data to ensure that eligible women receive benefits on a priority basis.
Focus on Housing and Healthcare for Women in Distress
The state government aims to provide not just financial assistance but also long-term social security and dignity to women facing difficult circumstances. The initiative is designed to support women who lack safe housing and access to healthcare.
Officials said the objective is to ensure that eligible women receive:
- Permanent housing under central and state schemes
- Free or cashless healthcare services
- Integrated welfare support through multiple schemes
Priority Categories of Beneficiary Women Identified
According to the government’s planning, priority will be given to three categories of women:
- Women affected by triple talaq cases
- Acid attack survivors
- Destitute and homeless women
These groups will be connected with housing and healthcare schemes to help them rebuild stable and dignified lives.
CM Yogi Adityanath’s Directives Drive the Initiative
The initiative was accelerated after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials in a high-level meeting to identify women facing severe social and economic hardships.
He emphasized that:
- Women affected by social injustice must be prioritised
- Beneficiaries should be linked with welfare schemes without delay
- Permanent housing should be ensured for vulnerable women
Under this directive, eligible women will be provided homes under housing schemes and health coverage under Ayushman Bharat and state health programs.
Women Welfare Department Collecting Beneficiary Data
The Women Welfare Department has launched a large-scale data collection exercise to identify eligible women across districts.
The process involves:
- Verification of triple talaq and acid attack cases
- Identification of destitute women without shelter
- Coordination with multiple government departments
Officials said the aim is to ensure that no eligible woman is left out due to lack of documentation or awareness.
Integrated Access to Housing and Health Schemes
Under the new approach, beneficiaries will be linked to multiple welfare schemes in a unified manner, including:
- Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY)
- Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana
- Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana
- Mukhyamantri Jan Arogya Yojana
This integrated model is expected to simplify access and reduce procedural delays.
Focus on Rehabilitation and Self-Reliance
Experts believe the initiative goes beyond financial aid, focusing instead on rehabilitation and long-term empowerment.
Women affected by acid attacks or triple talaq often face:
- Financial instability
- Medical treatment challenges
- Social exclusion
The government’s plan aims to provide them with stable housing and healthcare support, enabling them to move toward self-reliance and dignity.
Health Security Through Ayushman Bharat and State Schemes
A key component of the initiative is healthcare coverage. Under Ayushman Bharat, eligible families receive cashless treatment up to several lakh rupees. Additionally, the Mukhyamantri Jan Arogya Yojana will further expand access to healthcare services for women beneficiaries.
Officials said ensuring health security is as important as providing housing support for long-term stability.
Ensuring No Beneficiary is Left Behind
The government is also working to ensure that lack of awareness or procedural complexity does not prevent eligible women from receiving benefits.
Steps being taken include:
- Door-to-door data verification
- Inter-department coordination
- Simplified application and approval process
- Awareness campaigns at the district level
The goal is to create a seamless system where eligible women can access benefits without bureaucratic hurdles.
Toward a Comprehensive Women Welfare Model in UP
The Uttar Pradesh government’s initiative represents a major step toward integrated welfare delivery for vulnerable women. By combining housing, healthcare, and social security schemes, the state aims to ensure dignity, safety, and long-term rehabilitation for women in distress.
