New Delhi: Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan Limited (HURL) has strengthened its commitment to soil health and farmer-centric agriculture with the inauguration of soil testing facilities at nine locations across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The initiative aims to bring scientific soil assessment closer to farmers and encourage balanced fertiliser use and sustainable agricultural practices.
The soil testing facility at Dandwapar in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, was inaugurated by Dr. Siba Prasad Mohanty, Managing Director (MD) of HURL, in the presence of Rajesh Tripathi, MLA from Chillupar, along with other distinguished guests, officials and members of the farming community.
Farmers and stakeholders from all nine locations joined the inauguration programme virtually, marking a collective step towards promoting scientific farming practices and improving awareness about soil health.
HURL Expands Access to Soil Testing Facilities
The newly inaugurated facilities are intended to make scientific soil assessment more accessible to farmers across the two states. Through soil testing, farmers can obtain information about the nutrient status of their soil and make better-informed decisions about fertiliser application.
The initiative focuses on encouraging farmers to understand the specific requirements of their soil and crops before applying agricultural inputs.
Key objectives of the initiative include:
- Improving farmers’ access to soil testing services.
- Promoting scientific and balanced fertiliser application.
- Encouraging efficient use of agricultural inputs.
- Supporting healthier soils and sustainable crop productivity.
- Raising awareness about scientific nutrient management.
By bringing soil testing services closer to farming communities, HURL aims to encourage more informed agricultural practices and improve the effectiveness of fertiliser use.

Soil Testing to Promote Balanced Fertiliser Use
Soil testing plays an important role in identifying nutrient deficiencies or excesses in agricultural land. The information helps farmers understand their soil’s condition and determine fertiliser requirements according to the needs of their soil and crops.
Speaking on the occasion, HURL MD Dr. Siba Prasad Mohanty emphasised the importance of understanding soil conditions before deciding which fertilisers to apply and in what quantities.
The initiative seeks to encourage farmers to move towards soil-based nutrient management rather than relying on general fertiliser application practices.
The expected benefits of soil testing include:
- Better understanding of soil nutrient status.
- More informed decisions on fertiliser selection and application.
- Improved efficiency in the use of agricultural inputs.
- Support for long-term soil health.
- Sustainable crop productivity through balanced nutrient management.
By adopting scientific soil assessment, farmers can make agricultural input decisions based on the specific requirements of their land, supporting more efficient cultivation practices.
HURL Strengthens Its Commitment to Farmer-Centric Agriculture
The establishment of soil testing facilities reflects HURL’s broader commitment to supporting farmers beyond the availability of fertilisers. The company is also focusing on promoting agricultural awareness, scientific nutrient management and the importance of maintaining soil health.
The inauguration across nine locations in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar represents an effort to bring soil assessment services closer to farming communities and encourage the adoption of balanced farming practices.
Through this initiative, HURL aims to help farmers make more purposeful decisions regarding fertiliser use while contributing to healthier soils and sustainable agricultural development.
The programme also highlights the importance of integrating scientific soil assessment into everyday farming practices to support long-term productivity and responsible use of agricultural resources.
