New Delhi: The Indian Air Force’s Sarang Helicopter Display Team has reached Egypt to participate in the second edition of the El Alamein International Airshow, scheduled from September 8 to 10, 2026, at El Alamein International Airport.

The participation marks another important international engagement for the Indian Air Force and highlights the growing defence and diplomatic relationship between India and Egypt. The team will demonstrate the flying capabilities of India’s indigenous Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Dhruv before an international audience of aviation enthusiasts, air forces and aerospace professionals.

Sarang Team Takes India’s Indigenous Dhruv to Egypt

The Sarang Helicopter Display Team is known for its highly coordinated aerial performances involving five helicopters. Flying the indigenously designed and manufactured ALH Dhruv, the team performs demanding formation manoeuvres, close-proximity flying and synchronised sequences that require high levels of precision and coordination.

The display is not only a demonstration of the pilots’ flying skills but also showcases the capabilities of India’s indigenous aerospace industry.

The ALH Dhruv forms the centrepiece of the Sarang team’s performances, allowing audiences to see the helicopter’s versatility and agility in demanding aerial formations.

Signature ‘Dolphin Leap’ to Feature at Airshow

During the El Alamein International Airshow, the Sarang team will perform its famous “Dolphin Leap” manoeuvre, one of the formations associated with its international displays.

The team will also introduce a new manoeuvre, called the “Spot Stall Turn”, adding a fresh element to its performance in Egypt.

These manoeuvres will highlight the precision, discipline and coordination required to operate helicopters in closely synchronised formations. The performance is expected to give international spectators and aviation enthusiasts a closer look at the capabilities of the ALH Dhruv.

A Showcase of Indian Air Force Skills

Sarang’s participation provides an opportunity for the Indian Air Force to demonstrate the professionalism and flying expertise of its personnel on an international platform.

Helicopter display teams require pilots to maintain extremely precise formations while carrying out complex manoeuvres. The Sarang team’s performance therefore represents both individual flying skills and the broader discipline and coordination of the Indian Air Force.

Its presence in Egypt also gives international audiences an opportunity to witness an Indian-designed and manufactured helicopter being used for an advanced aerial display.

Strengthening India-Egypt Defence Engagement

The Sarang team’s participation comes at a time when India and Egypt are continuing to deepen their multifaceted relationship.

Defence cooperation forms an important part of the bilateral partnership, alongside economic, diplomatic and people-to-people ties. International military exercises, professional exchanges and participation in airshows provide opportunities for the two countries’ armed forces to interact and strengthen institutional relationships.

The Indian Air Force’s participation in a major international aviation event in Egypt adds another dimension to this engagement.

The event will also bring together leading air forces and professionals from the aerospace, defence and space sectors from different parts of the world. Sarang’s presence will allow the Indian team to interact with other international display teams and aviation professionals.

El Alamein Airshow Brings Global Aviation Community Together

The second edition of the El Alamein International Airshow is scheduled to take place at El Alamein International Airport from September 8 to 10.

The event is expected to provide a platform for air forces as well as professionals working across the aerospace, defence and space sectors. For India, the participation offers an opportunity to present its indigenous aviation capabilities before a global audience.

The Sarang display will add a distinctive helicopter element to the airshow while showcasing the agility and versatility of the ALH Dhruv.

India’s Indigenous Aerospace Capability on Display

Beyond the aerial spectacle, the Sarang team’s participation carries significance for India’s growing focus on indigenous defence production and aerospace capabilities.

The ALH Dhruv is an indigenously designed and manufactured helicopter, and its use by the Sarang team provides an international platform to demonstrate the capabilities of Indian aerospace engineering.

For spectators, the display will offer a visually striking demonstration of helicopter flying. For the wider defence community, it will provide an opportunity to observe an Indian platform operating in a demanding international display environment.

As the Sarang team performs over Egyptian skies, its participation is expected to combine aviation skill with diplomatic engagement, further strengthening the visibility of India’s defence capabilities and its ties with Egypt and other participating countries.
