Background of Martyr IAF Squadron Leader Anuj Sharma Death 

A Sukhoi-30MKI fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district during a routine training mission. The aircraft had taken off from the Jorhat Air Force Station and soon lost radar contact before crashing in a remote mountainous area.

According to the IAF, the aircraft went down around 7:42 PM during the sortie. Search and rescue teams were immediately deployed to locate the wreckage and the crew. Unfortunately, both pilots on board suffered fatal injuries.

The crash triggered an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Military aviation accidents are carefully examined by the Indian Air Force to improve safety and operational procedures.

Pilots Who Lost Their Lives

Two Indian Air Force officers were onboard the aircraft when the crash occurred:

  • Squadron Leader Anuj Sharma
  • Flight Lieutenant Purvesh Duragkar

The Indian Air Force officially acknowledged their deaths and extended condolences to their families.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also expressed grief over the tragic loss and praised the courage of the officers serving the nation.

About the Sukhoi-30MKI Fighter Jet

The Sukhoi-30MKI is one of the most powerful fighter aircraft used by the Indian Air Force. It is a long-range, twin-seat, multi-role fighter jet designed in Russia and produced in India under licence by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

His father served in the Indian Army and retired with the rank of Subedar, which greatly influenced Anuj’s decision to join the military.

Anuj joined the Indian Air Force in 2015 and quickly established himself as a dedicated and skilled fighter pilot. Known for his discipline, professionalism, and love for flying, he served the nation with pride.

He was engaged to be married to a fellow officer in the armed forces, making the tragedy even more heartbreaking for his family and loved ones. His sacrifice will always be remembered as an example of courage and patriotism.
