New Delhi: In two significant developments involving senior IAS officers, 2010-batch Madhya Pradesh cadre IAS officer Tanvi Sundriyal has been empanelled for Joint Secretary or equivalent-level posts in the Government of India, while 1996-batch Uttar Pradesh cadre IAS officer Nitishwar Kumar has received an extension of his central deputation until his retirement in August 2027.
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued the notification regarding her empanelment on August 25, 2026, clearing the way for her consideration for Joint Secretary-level assignments at the Centre.
Tanvi Sundriyal Gets Joint Secretary Empanelment
The empanelment means that IAS Sundriyal is now part of the pool of officers eligible for consideration for Joint Secretary or equivalent-level positions in the Government of India.
Her current assignment in the Ministry of Civil Aviation is part of her ongoing central deputation. She joined the ministry in August 2025 and is scheduled to serve there under the approved deputation tenure.

The latest DoPT order marks an important career progression for the 2010-batch IAS officer, making her eligible for higher-level responsibilities in the Central government.
Currently Serving in Civil Aviation Ministry
Ms Sundriyal has been serving as a Director in the Ministry of Civil Aviation since August 2025. She joined the Centre from the Madhya Pradesh cadre on a five-year deputation.
As a Director-level officer in the ministry, she is part of the Central government’s administrative machinery dealing with the civil aviation sector.
Her empanelment at the Joint Secretary level could pave the way for her consideration for a wider range of senior policy and administrative assignments in different ministries and departments of the Government of India.
Another Key Central Deputation Development
Meanwhile, another significant development concerning central deputation involves senior IAS officer Nitishwar Kumar (IAS:1996:UP).
Kumar, who is currently serving as Additional Secretary & Financial Adviser in the Ministry of Women and Child Development, has received an extension of his central deputation up to his retirement.
According to a DoPT order issued on August 25, 2026, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved continuation of his deputation beyond September 30, 2026, until his date of superannuation on August 31, 2027, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Nitishwar Kumar to Continue in Women & Child Development Ministry
Nitishwar Kumar has been serving in the Ministry of Women and Child Development since September 2022, when he was brought to the Centre on central deputation from Jammu & Kashmir.
Before moving to the Centre, he served as Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Manoj Sinha.
His latest extension means he will continue in his present central assignment until his retirement in August 2027, unless the government issues further orders.
The two developments underline the continuing movement of senior IAS officers into key positions at the Centre, with Tanvi Sundriyal’s Joint Secretary empanelment opening the possibility of her taking up a higher-level Central government assignment in the future, while Nitishwar Kumar has secured continuity in his existing role until superannuation.
What Does Joint Secretary Empanelment Mean?
Empanelment by the DoPT makes an IAS officer eligible for consideration for Joint Secretary-level appointments at the Centre. However, empanelment by itself does not constitute an appointment to a specific Joint Secretary post.
Officers who are empanelled may subsequently be considered for available positions depending on the requirements of different ministries and departments, their experience and the government’s posting decisions.
