IAS Officer Rebecca Vanessa Suchiang has been appointed as the new chief secretary as incumbent M.S Rao will superannuate on Thursday. She has been appointed by the Meghalaya government on Wednesday. She has become the first Khasi Lady to hold the top bureaucratic post in the State.
PP Trivedi was the first woman chief secretary of Meghalaya.
1989 batch IAS officer Suchiang was recently an additional chief secretary in charge of personnel, Home (Police), Finance besides other departments. She was also appointed as Chief managing director of Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited
The notification also states that on the assumption of charge as Chief Secretary, Suchiang will also function as the state vigilance Commissioner, Meghalaya.
