New Delhi: In a significant administrative move, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved extensions in the central deputation tenures of two senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers: Sunil Kumar Barnwal and Nitesh Kumar Vyas, ensuring continuity in leadership at the National Health Authority (NHA) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
Sunil Kumar Barnwal’s Deputation as NHA CEO Extended Until December 2027
The central government has extended the tenure of Mr Barnwal (IAS: 1997, Jharkhand cadre) as Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Authority (NHA) under the Department of Health and Family Welfare until 2 December 2027.
Mr Barnwal, who assumed office as CEO of NHA on 1 September 2025, had previously been serving as Additional Secretary in the Department of Higher Education. His original central deputation began on 3 December 2020 as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs and was scheduled to end on 2 December 2025. The extension, granted retrospectively, allows him to continue overseeing key health initiatives such as the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) and PM-JAY insurance scheme.

Mr Vyas, appointed as Additional Secretary in October 2024 after serving in the Election Commission of India as Deputy Election Commissioner, has been actively involved in overseeing the administration of Union Territories and ensuring smooth execution of government schemes.
