New Delhi: Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has announced the appointment of Mr. A. Amarnath (DIN: 11690405) as its Government Nominee Director, effective June 5, 2026. The appointment has been made following a communication from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoP&NG) dated June 4, 2026.
The disclosure was made in compliance with SEBI (LODR) Regulations, 2015, under Regulation 30 read with Part A of Schedule III.
Appointment Under SEBI Regulatory Disclosure
IOCL informed stock exchanges that the appointment is part of the government’s representation on the board of the Maharatna PSU. The move is aimed at strengthening strategic oversight in India’s energy sector and ensuring alignment with national energy policy objectives.
The company confirmed that Mr. A. Amarnath is not related to any existing director and is not debarred by SEBI or any other regulatory authority.

Profile of Mr. A. Amarnath
Mr. A. Amarnath is a senior officer of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) with extensive experience in diplomacy, international relations, and energy cooperation.
He is currently serving as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at the Joint Secretary level in the MoP&NG, where he handles international cooperation and energy diplomacy initiatives.
His responsibilities include coordination between:
- Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas
- Ministry of External Affairs
- Foreign governments and diplomatic missions
- Global energy companies
Extensive Diplomatic Experience Since 2006
Mr. Amarnath joined the Indian Foreign Service in 2006 and has served in several key international postings, including:
- United Arab Emirates
- Israel
- Maldives
He has also represented India at the United Nations in New York and was part of India’s delegation during its UN Security Council tenure (2021–2022).
His areas of expertise include:
- Disarmament and international security
- West Asia and Gulf affairs
- Multilateral diplomacy
Key Roles in Ministry of External Affairs
Within the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Mr. Amarnath has held important positions such as:
- Director, Northern Division
- Chief of Staff to the Minister of State for External Affairs (2016–2018)
He is also serving as Government Nominee Director on the Board of Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserve Limited (ISPRL).
