IndianOil Marks 67th Foundation Day, Highlights 35% LPG Production Surge and Green Hydrogen Push

Director (Refineries) Arvind Kumar highlights uninterrupted energy supplies during West Asia crisis and development of India’s first large-scale 10 KTA Green Hydrogen Plant.

New Delhi: IndianOil marked its 67th IndianOil Day on September 1 at its Refineries Headquarters, with employees from across the Refineries Division joining the celebrations virtually. The event was led by Mr Arvind Kumar, Director (Refineries), IndianOil, who highlighted the Corporation’s journey, recent operational achievements and its focus on building a more sustainable and resilient refining sector.

Reflecting on IndianOil’s 66-year journey, Kumar said the Corporation’s enduring purpose remains serving the nation and securing its energy needs. He also appreciated the efforts of Refineries Division teams in maintaining uninterrupted energy supplies during the recent West Asia crisis.

IndianOil Highlights Response to West Asia Crisis

During his address, Kumar commended employees for ensuring seamless refinery operations and uninterrupted energy supplies amid the challenging external environment.

He also highlighted the significant increase in domestic LPG production, which helped strengthen the country’s supply security.

Key achievements highlighted by Director (Refineries):

  • Uninterrupted energy supplies maintained during the recent West Asia crisis.
  • LPG production increased by nearly 35%.
  • Higher LPG production helped reduce import dependence.
  • Increased domestic production strengthened LPG availability and supply security.
  • Refineries Division teams worked collaboratively to maintain seamless operations.

Kumar emphasised the importance of remaining agile and resilient in an increasingly complex operating environment.

“We cannot choose the environment in which we operate. But we can choose how we respond to it.”

IndianOil Focuses on Next-Generation Refinery Operations

Kumar said the refining sector is undergoing significant transformation, with changing energy requirements and increasing emphasis on efficiency and sustainability.

The evolving refinery landscape is being shaped by:

  • Greater integration between refining and petrochemical operations.
  • Expansion of specialty product portfolios.
  • Increased focus on energy efficiency and sustainability.
  • Adoption of smarter and more integrated refinery operations.
  • Greater emphasis on resilience amid changing market conditions.

According to Kumar, the refinery of tomorrow will need to be more integrated, intelligent, energy-efficient, sustainable and resilient.

India’s First Large-Scale 10 KTA Green Hydrogen Plant

A key focus of the address was IndianOil’s development of India’s first large-scale 10 KTA Green Hydrogen Plant.

The project represents an important step towards cleaner refinery operations and the adoption of low-carbon energy solutions.

The development is aligned with IndianOil’s broader focus on:

  • Green hydrogen adoption.
  • Cleaner and more sustainable refinery operations.
  • Improving energy efficiency.
  • Supporting the transition towards lower-carbon energy systems.
  • Preparing refineries for future energy and market requirements.

IndianOil Recognises Employee Contributions

The 67th IndianOil Day celebrations also recognised employees for their contribution and commitment to the organisation.

Employees were honoured through several awards, including:

  • Suggestion Scheme Awards
  • Swachhata Awards
  • Long Service Awards

The recognition highlighted the role of employees in supporting operational excellence and organisational improvement.

IndianOil Promotes Inclusive Education Through CSR Outreach

Earlier in the day, Arvind Kumar visited The Blind Relief Association, Delhi, as part of IndianOil’s “Smiles We Spread” outreach initiative.

During the visit, he interacted with visually impaired students and reaffirmed IndianOil’s commitment to promoting inclusive and accessible education.

The outreach initiative reflects the Corporation’s focus on supporting communities and creating opportunities for inclusive development.
