Bhubaneswar: State-run National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), one of India’s leading aluminium producers, has signed a Long-Term Gas Transmission Agreement with GAIL (India) Limited to ensure a reliable supply of natural gas for its Smelter Plant at the S&P Complex in Anugul, Odisha.
The agreement is part of NALCO’s initiative to revamp furnace firing systems across various facilities at the smelter plant. The partnership with GAIL is expected to facilitate a seamless and dependable natural gas supply for the upgraded systems.
NALCO-GAIL Agreement to Ensure Reliable Natural Gas Supply
Under the long-term agreement, GAIL will support the supply and distribution of natural gas required for furnace operations at NALCO’s smelter plant.
The gas supply will support revamped furnace firing systems across key areas, including:
- Cast House
- Pot Lines
- Rolling Plant
- Anode Baking Furnace
The initiative is aimed at facilitating a reliable gas supply infrastructure for NALCO’s smelting operations in Odisha.

GAIL to Establish Dedicated Gas Distribution Station
To facilitate seamless distribution of natural gas within the smelter premises, GAIL (India) Limited will establish a dedicated Gas Distribution Station at NALCO’s Smelter Plant.
The dedicated facility will support the distribution of natural gas to the different areas covered under the furnace firing system revamp.
