Gujarat Clears ₹133.41 Crore for Tourism, Pilgrimage Projects Across 10 Key Sites

Gujarat has approved ₹133.41 crore for development works at 10 religious, historical and tourism sites, including Greater Gir and major temple complexes.

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has approved development works worth ₹133.41 crore across 10 religious, historical and tourism sites, with projects ranging from temple redevelopment and pilgrim amenities to tourism infrastructure and a rooftop solar installation.

The approvals, granted by Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, are aimed at improving facilities for visitors and pilgrims while strengthening tourism infrastructure and creating opportunities for local employment.

Greater Gir Gets Largest Allocation

The largest allocation of ₹46.91 crore has been approved under the Iconic Development of Greater Gir Project for tourism-oriented improvements at multiple locations in the region.

The works are intended to improve basic facilities for visitors and strengthen the area’s tourism potential.

Major Temple and Pilgrimage Projects

Several religious sites across Gujarat will receive funding for infrastructure upgrades and redevelopment.

Key allocations include:

  • ₹35 crore: Holistic development of Shri Vardayini Mataji Temple at Rupal, Gandhinagar.
  • ₹21.75 crore: Reconstruction and other development works at Shri Jodhalpir Temple in Kesardi, Ahmedabad district.
  • ₹12.98 crore: Development of Govardhan Parvat at Anjar in Kutch.
  • ₹5.06 crore: Development around Analgadh Fort and Mahakali Mataji Temple in Gondal, Rajkot.
  • ₹5.03 crore: Comprehensive development of the Shri Unai Mataji Temple complex in Vansda, Navsari.
  • ₹3.31 crore: Development of basic facilities along the Mahisagar River near Chehar Mataji Temple in Bhadarva, Vadodara.
  • ₹2.68 crore: Installation of a 100-kilowatt rooftop solar system and other electrification works at Valinath Mahadev Temple in Tarabh, Mehsana.
  • ₹50 lakh: Basic infrastructure works at Mahakali Mataji Temple in Umrecha, Mehsana.
  • ₹18.91 lakh: Repair and renovation works at Gora Ramji Temple in Dharampur, Valsad.

Focus on Visitor and Pilgrim Amenities

The approved works cover a range of facilities designed to make visits to these destinations safer and more convenient.

At the Chehar Mataji Temple area, for instance, the project includes a ghat, walkway, paver blocks, railings and landscaping. The Unai Mataji Temple complex will receive facilities including a circumambulation path, entrance gate, landscaping, compound wall, cultural hall, dining hall and library.

At Mahakali Mataji Temple in Umrecha, the works include high-mast poles, street lighting, lighting wiring, drainage and kerb beams. The Valinath Mahadev Temple project combines electrification with a rooftop solar system, adding a clean-energy component to the tourism infrastructure push.

Tourism Push to Support Local Economy

The Gujarat government has linked the development programme with improving the experience of pilgrims and tourists while generating new opportunities for the local tourism sector.

The projects cover destinations across Rajkot, Vadodara, Kutch, Mehsana, Valsad, Navsari, Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, giving the initiative a broad geographical spread across the state.
