Bhopal: Ipca Laboratories has proposed investments worth ₹1,080 crore in Dewas and Vikram Udyogpuri in Ujjain, with the projects expected to create around 1,500 employment opportunities in Madhya Pradesh.
The investment plans were discussed during a meeting between Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav and Ipca Laboratories Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer Ajit Kumar Jain in Mumbai. The meeting was held as part of the state government’s ‘Dialogue on Investment Opportunities in Madhya Pradesh’ initiative at The St. Regis Mumbai.
The proposed projects could further expand Ipca’s manufacturing footprint in the state while adding new employment opportunities in the pharmaceutical sector.
₹1,000 Crore Project Proposed in Dewas
Ipca Laboratories has proposed an investment of around ₹1,000 crore in Dewas. The project could generate approximately 1,000 employment opportunities once implemented.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister and company representatives discussed the proposed project and the support required for taking it forward.
The proposed investment is significant for Dewas, which has developed as an important industrial centre in Madhya Pradesh. A large pharmaceutical investment could further strengthen the city’s manufacturing ecosystem and create opportunities across associated services and supply chains.
₹80 Crore Project Planned at Vikram Udyogpuri
Ipca has also proposed an investment of around ₹80 crore at Vikram Udyogpuri in Ujjain. The project is expected to create approximately 500 employment opportunities.
The proposed Ujjain project would add to the industrial activity emerging around Vikram Udyogpuri, one of the state’s key industrial development locations.
Together, the Dewas and Ujjain proposals represent a potential ₹1,080 crore investment and around 1,500 jobs.
Ipca Explores Link With Ratlam Biotech Park
The meeting also covered the possibility of Ipca Laboratories joining the upcoming biotech park being developed in Ratlam.
The proposed biotech park has a large land bank available for industrial development. Its location also offers connectivity advantages, with an eight-lane expressway passing nearby.
For a pharmaceutical company with an established manufacturing presence in Madhya Pradesh, participation in the biotech park could create scope for further expansion and new activities in the state’s life sciences ecosystem.
The discussion indicates that the company’s future investment interest in Madhya Pradesh may extend beyond the two projects currently proposed in Dewas and Ujjain.
Government Support Discussed for Project Execution
The meeting also focused on the support required to implement Ipca’s proposed investments.
Ajit Kumar Jain shared details of the company’s investment plans in Madhya Pradesh, while discussions covered issues related to project implementation and the assistance required from the state government.
Such investment facilitation is important for ensuring that proposed projects move from the planning stage towards actual implementation.
For Madhya Pradesh, the focus is also on building an environment where existing investors can expand while new projects add capacity, employment and industrial activity.
Ipca’s Strong Manufacturing Base in Madhya Pradesh
Ipca Laboratories already has a substantial presence in Madhya Pradesh. The Mumbai-headquartered pharmaceutical company operates seven manufacturing facilities across Ratlam, Pithampur, Indore, Bhopal and Dewas.
These facilities are linked to around 7,000 direct and indirect jobs, highlighting the company’s existing role in the state’s industrial and employment ecosystem.
Ipca was established in 1949 and operates in the pharmaceutical sector, manufacturing bulk drugs, intermediates and formulations. Its products serve both the domestic market and international markets.
The company’s existing network in Madhya Pradesh provides a base for further investment and expansion.
Madhya Pradesh Contributes Significantly to Ipca’s Business
According to the information shared during the meeting, Madhya Pradesh contributes around 20 per cent to Ipca Laboratories’ overall business.
Products manufactured through the company’s units in the state are exported to around 120 countries, giving Madhya Pradesh an important role in Ipca’s international supply chain.
The proposed projects in Dewas and Ujjain could therefore strengthen an industrial network that already connects Madhya Pradesh’s pharmaceutical manufacturing capacity with global markets.
The potential addition of the Ratlam biotech park to this ecosystem could further expand opportunities in biotechnology and related industries.
Investment Could Strengthen Jobs and Pharma Manufacturing
The proposed ₹1,080 crore investment comes at a time when Madhya Pradesh is seeking to attract large-scale industrial investments across different sectors.
For Dewas and Ujjain, the projects could bring new employment opportunities and support local businesses linked to manufacturing, logistics, services and supply chains.
The possible association with the Ratlam biotech park could also widen the state’s pharmaceutical and biotechnology ecosystem.
While the projects remain proposed at this stage, their combined potential of ₹1,500 crore? No—₹1,080 crore in investment and around 1,500 jobs makes them significant for the state’s industrial development.
With an established pharmaceutical company already operating seven manufacturing facilities in Madhya Pradesh, further expansion could deepen the state’s role in Ipca’s domestic and international manufacturing network.
