He was earlier sent on mandatory leave in response to Maratha community leaders' calls for action against him

Following protests from Maratha activists, IPS officer Tushar Doshi has been moved from the state CID to the Government Railway Police in Pune. Mr. Doshi’s transfer came after he was removed as superintendent of the Jalna district after a lathicharge incident on Maratha demonstrators.

Only four days after being appointed to the state CID, the IPS officer was shifted to the Government Railway Police. This decision was made in response to concerns raised by Maratha activists and Shiv Sena members.

Mr. Doshi’s transfer came after he was fired as Jalna district police superintendent on September 1 after a lathicharge incident on Maratha demonstrators in Antawali Sarati hamlet. He was sent on mandatory leave in response to Maratha community leaders’ calls for action against him.

He was appointed as superintendent of the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on November 20, a move that was opposed by many.

Mr. Deepak Kesarkar, a member of Shinde’s Shiv Sena, wrote a letter to the chief minister criticizing Doshi’s appointment. Doshi’s appointment should be delayed, according to Kesarkar, because of the pending allegations relating to the lathicharge event.

In response to Kesarkar’s request, the home department canceled Doshi’s CID assignment and moved him to the Government Railway Police in Pune as superintendent. The lathi charge incident sparked huge protests from the Maratha community and opposition parties. Protesters requested the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. In an attempt to suppress the uproar, the administration took action against several police personnel, including Mr. Doshi.
