IPS officer Vimukt Ranjan from Himachal Pradesh is all set to become the DIG (Deputy Inspector General of Police) of the Special Protection Group of the country. The responsibility of the Special Security Team is to protect the Prime Minister of India and his family, as well as the former Prime Minister and former President.
This special team is directly under the cabinet secretariat of the government. SPG works as a department under IB (Intelligence Bureau). Apart from the officers of selected IPS and other cadres of the country, personnel of different ranks are included in the SPG.
