The two-year tenure of IPS officer Ms. Rashmi Shukla (1988 batch) as the Maharashtra Director General of Police (DGP) has been extended as per an order issued by the state government on 27 February, 2024. Despite her appointment as DGP on January3 this year, she was set to retire on June 30, allowing her only a six-month tenure.
Ms. Shukla held the position of Additional General Director of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). She had served as Pune police commissioner and headed the State Intelligence Department (SID) when the Devendra Fadnavis-led BJP government was in power.
However, the home department’s order giving reference to a Supreme Court ruling regarding the duration of state’s DGP’s tenure, ensures that she will be the state Director General of Police until January 3,2026.
