Ranchi: In a historic move, the Jharkhand government has appointed Tadasha Mishra, an IPS officer of 1994 batch from Jharkhand cadre, as the full-time Director General of Police (DGP) on December 30, 2025, just a day before her scheduled retirement on December 31. Prior to this, Ms. Mishra had been serving as the acting DGP following the resignation of Anurag Gupta (IPS: 1990: JH) in November 2025.
The Home Department issued a notification confirming her appointment in accordance with the amended Jharkhand Police Chief Selection and Appointment Rules, 2025.
A Steady Rise from Railways to Home Department
Before taking over as acting DGP, Ms Mishra served as Special Secretary in the Home, Prison & Disaster Management Department and as Additional Director General (ADG) of Railways, overseeing security across the state’s railway network. Her career includes senior roles such as Inspector General (IG) and other key administrative positions, earning her a reputation for diligence, discipline, and efficiency.
Personal Background and Challenges
Born in Odisha, Mishra joined the Indian Police Service in 1994 under the Bihar cadre and was later allocated to Jharkhand after the state’s formation in 2000. She is a mother of two and has faced personal tragedies, including the loss of her son in 2018, which she has cited as a turning point in her life. Colleagues describe her as resilient, compassionate, and deeply committed to public service.

Advocate for Women in Policing
Ms. Mishra has been a vocal advocate for gender sensitization and the empowerment of women in the police force. She has emphasized systemic reforms to make policing more inclusive, including establishing crèches for working mothers, ensuring gender-balanced postings, and providing equal opportunities in field assignments. She led multiple anti-Naxal operations in challenging terrains like Jhumra Pahar, demonstrating courage and tactical expertise. Her field leadership and prompt decision-making have been widely recognized.

Mishra’s assumption of charge as DGP was celebrated at the Jharkhand Police Headquarters, with senior officers and staff congratulating her on this historic appointment. Although Ms. Mishra is set to retire on December 31, 2025, she will serve as DGP (In-Charge) until further orders.
