Ranchi: A statewide Read-a-Thon was organised in Jharkhand under the Pathan Abhiyan-2026 initiative, with 15,06,249 children participating in a 30-minute collective reading activity.
The event was conducted from 11 am to 11:30 am, with students, teachers and community members participating across schools and communities in the state. The initiative was inspired by the concept of “Drop Everything and Read”, encouraging participants to set aside time for reading.
Shashi Ranjan Participates in Read-a-Thon
Shashi Ranjan, State Project Director of the Jharkhand Education Project Council, participated in the Read-a-Thon at a school in Dhurwa, Ranchi.

He encouraged students to make reading a regular habit rather than limiting it to a specific activity.
Ranjan also urged parents, teachers and community members to encourage children to read regularly and create a positive environment that supports reading.

According to the information provided by the organisers, the statewide activity saw participation from:
- 15,06,249 children
- 17,958 schools
- 41,171 teachers
- 7,114 government officials
- 33,306 community members
The initiative aims to encourage children to read, imagine, express themselves and learn, while involving families, teachers, communities and institutions in their reading activities.
