Jharkhand Allocates ₹4.23 Crore Under Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0 for 49 Urban Local Bodies

The funds, released under the Centre-State 60:40 funding pattern, will support capacity building, skill development, and knowledge management across 49 urban local bodies and SUDA in Jharkhand.

Ranchi: The Jharkhand Government has sanctioned ₹4,23,33,333 (₹4.23 crore) under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0 (SBM-U 2.0) to strengthen capacity building, skill development, and knowledge management across the state’s urban local bodies.

The allocation covers 49 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and the State Urban Development Agency (SUDA). The funds have been released by the Urban Development and Housing Department through the SNA SPARSH system.

According to an order issued by Principal Secretary Sunil Kumar, the financial assistance aims to enhance institutional capacity and improve the implementation of urban sanitation and solid waste management initiatives across the state.

₹4.23 Crore Released Under Centre-State Funding Pattern

The allocation has been made under the 60:40 Centre-State funding ratio prescribed under Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0.

The fund distribution includes:

  • Central Share: ₹2.54 crore
  • State Share: ₹1.69 crore
  • Total Allocation: ₹4.23 crore

The amount will be utilized for:

  • Capacity Building
  • Skill Development
  • Knowledge Management

These initiatives are intended to strengthen the administrative and technical capabilities of urban local bodies responsible for implementing sanitation and cleanliness programmes.

Funds Distributed Among SUDA and 49 Urban Local Bodies

The Urban Development Department has allocated the funds among SUDA and different categories of urban local bodies across Jharkhand.

The beneficiaries include:

  • State Urban Development Agency (SUDA): 1
  • Major Municipal Corporations / NACT: 10
  • Municipal Councils (Nagar Parishads): 20
  • Municipal Panchayats (Nagar Panchayats): 19

Category-wise Fund Allocation

The funds have been distributed according to the size and administrative responsibilities of each urban body.

State Urban Development Agency (SUDA)

  • Number of Agencies: 1
  • Allocation: ₹70.83 lakh

The amount will support state-level coordination, monitoring, and implementation of SBM-U 2.0 activities.

Major Municipal Corporations and NACT

A total of 10 major urban bodies have received financial assistance.

Allocation details:

  • Ranchi, Dhanbad and Jamshedpur (NACT): ₹12.50 lakh each
  • Deoghar, Giridih, Hazaribagh, Chas, Mango, Adityapur and Medininagar: ₹10 lakh each

Municipal Councils (Nagar Parishads)

A total of 20 Municipal Councils have each been allocated:

  • ₹7.50 lakh per council

The beneficiaries include:

  • Jhumri Telaiya

  • Ramgarh
  • Gumla
  • Lohardaga
  • Simdega
  • Dumka
  • Madhupur
  • Pakur
  • Godda

Municipal Panchayats (Nagar Panchayats)

A total of 19 Nagar Panchayats have each received:

  • ₹5 lakh per urban body

The beneficiaries include:

  • Koderma
  • Domchanch
  • Basukinath
  • Dhanwar
  • Barki Saria
  • Bundu
  • Khunti
  • Mahagama
  • Rajmahal
  • Barharwa
  • Jamtara
  • Chakulia
  • Saraikela
  • Hussainabad
  • Chhatarpur
  • Hariharganj
  • Majhiaon
  • Shri Banshidhar Nagar
  • Latehar

Summary of Category-wise Allocation

The overall allocation under SBM (Urban) 2.0 has been distributed as follows:

  • SUDA (1 agency): ₹70.83 lakh
  • Three Major Municipal Corporations/NACT: ₹37.50 lakh
  • Seven Other Municipal Corporations: ₹70 lakh
  • 20 Municipal Councils: ₹1.50 crore
  • 19 Municipal Panchayats: ₹95 lakh

The total allocation amounts to ₹4,23,33,333.

Objective of the Allocation

The Jharkhand Government said the financial assistance is intended to strengthen institutional capacity and improve the implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0 across urban areas.

The initiative focuses on:

  • Building technical and administrative capacity
  • Training urban local body personnel
  • Improving knowledge management systems
  • Strengthening urban sanitation governance
  • Enhancing implementation of cleanliness and waste management programmes

The allocation is expected to improve the efficiency of urban local bodies and support the effective execution of Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0 across Jharkhand.
