Ranchi: Under the directives of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the Jharkhand government has intensified efforts to promote sustainable and modern urban development across the state. The Urban Development and Housing Department, in coordination with the Public Works Department (PWD) and other relevant agencies, has initiated comprehensive planning for the holistic development of urban infrastructure. The initiative aims to transform cities into well-organized, future-ready, and environmentally balanced urban centers.

Focus on Long-Term and Sustainable Urban Planning

The state government has emphasized that urban development plans must be long-term and explicitly reflect the principles of sustainable growth. To achieve this, close coordination between the Urban Development and Housing Department and the PWD has been established. The objective is to integrate all aspects of city planning, including road traffic management, urban beautification, and environmental conservation.

Formation of Expert Teams for Urban Assessment

Eight specialized teams have been formed by incorporating technical experts from both the PWD and the Jharkhand Urban Infrastructure Development Company (JUSCO). These teams will conduct field visits to different urban bodies across the state to assess the existing infrastructure and identify future development opportunities based on anticipated city needs.

The teams will evaluate the current conditions of roads, traffic density, intersections, and roundabouts. Additionally, they will prepare proposals for the construction of new roads, road surfacing, elevated flyovers, road overbridges, underbridges, footpaths, and proper pedestrian pathways.

Plans for Improved Connectivity and Urban Amenities

The state is also considering the construction of bypasses and ring roads to ensure smooth and safe traffic movement within urban areas. Simultaneously, urban beautification and environmental balance will be prioritized, with plans for roadside greenery, development of public spaces, and attractive urban landscapes.

Vision for Future-Ready Urban Infrastructure

According to the government, strong and modern urban infrastructure is the foundation of city development. Through the coordinated efforts of multiple departments, plans are being expedited to ensure that Jharkhand’s cities evolve in line with future requirements. This will provide citizens with better, safer, and sustainable urban facilities, reinforcing the state’s commitment to comprehensive urban modernization.
