BPCL Mumbai Refinery Launches Thane’s Oxygen Park, Strengthening Urban Greening and Sustainability

Thane / New Delhi: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) Mumbai Refinery has reached a significant environmental milestone with the inauguration of Thane’s ‘Oxygen Park’ at Vartak Nagar. The park was inaugurated by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in the presence of senior BPCL officials including Mahendra Kumar, CGM (HR), MR; S. Shrivastava, GM (Projects); and Atul Vyawahare, GM (Environment, PSM & QMS).

Part of BPCL’s 50th Year Celebrations

The initiative aligns with BPCL’s 50th-year celebrations and emphasizes the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability. The launch also coincided with National Pollution Control Day and resonates with the Government of India’s LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) initiative, promoting eco-conscious lifestyles and urban greening efforts.

Large-Scale Urban Greening Initiative

BPCL supported large-scale urban greening through a CSR-funded tree plantation programme. The project included the contribution of over 500 bamboo saplings to the Oxygen Park and more than 50,000 saplings to the Thane Municipal Corporation. These efforts aim to strengthen biodiversity, improve air quality, and enhance the green cover in urban areas.

Promoting Community and Environmental Partnerships

The Oxygen Park project demonstrates BPCL’s focus on collaborative environmental initiatives, combining corporate responsibility with community engagement. By partnering with local authorities and contributing to public green spaces, BPCL reinforces its role in promoting ecological balance and sustainable urban development.
