Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat, a 1992-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre, has called for a coordinated effort involving the government, police and public to combat drug abuse, emphasising that protecting children from substance abuse is a shared responsibility.
Speaking to reporters on Monday during a programme at Police Public School in Srinagar, Prabhat said the fight against drugs required a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach. He urged people to actively participate in the campaign and help safeguard the younger generation from the harmful effects of drugs.
“These small children are the future of our country,” the DGP said, underlining the importance of preventing drug abuse to protect the nation’s future.
DGP Highlights Collective Responsibility in Anti-Drug Campaign
Prabhat said the campaign against drugs was being pursued across the country and had gained momentum in Jammu and Kashmir under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

Referring to recent enforcement action in Srinagar, the police chief said several people had been arrested as part of efforts to tackle drug-related activities in the summer capital.
Describing the campaign as a collective fight, he stressed that law enforcement alone could not address the problem without public participation.
“It is our duty that we participate in this fight and say no to drugs,” he said.
A Wider Push to Protect Young People
The DGP’s remarks reinforce the need for a coordinated response to drug abuse in Jammu and Kashmir. While police action remains an important part of efforts to curb drug trafficking, community involvement and awareness among young people are also essential to prevention.
Prabhat urged citizens to join the campaign and help build an environment in which children and young people are protected from substance abuse.
