Karnataka Appoints New Law Officers After Administrative Change; BN Jagadeesh Named State Public Prosecutor-I

Bangalore: The Karnataka law officers appointment has taken place following a recent change in the State’s administration. The Karnataka government has appointed a new team of legal officers to represent the State before courts and handle important legal matters. The move comes after changes in the leadership of the Congress-led government in the State.

These appointments are important because law officers represent the government in court cases, provide legal advice, and help protect the State’s interests in legal disputes.

What is the Reason of Karnataka Law Officers Appointment

The Karnataka government recently witnessed a change in its leadership. Following this administrative transition, the State reviewed and updated its legal representation before various courts. As a result, several new law officers have been appointed to handle government litigation and prosecution work.

Government notifications confirming the appointments were issued under the Karnataka Law Officers (Appointments and Conditions of Service) Rules, 1977.

Details of Karnataka Law Officers Appointment

The government has made several important appointments:

  • BN Jagadeesh has been promoted and appointed as State Public Prosecutor-I. He replaced BA Belliyappa in the position.
  • Vijayakumar Majage has been appointed as State Public Prosecutor-II.
  • Mohammed Ayub Ali Khan has been appointed as an Additional State Public Prosecutor.
  • Rashmi Jadav has also been appointed as an Additional State Public Prosecutor.

Large Team of Law Officers Appointed for Karnataka High Court

Apart from the public prosecutors, the government has appointed a large team of advocates to represent the State before the Karnataka High Court. The appointments include:

  • 42 Additional Government Advocates (AGAs)
  • 27 High Court Government Pleaders (HCGPs)

These officers will represent Karnataka before the Principal Bench of the High Court and assist the government in legal proceedings.

Women Get Significant Representation

One notable aspect of the appointments is the participation of women lawyers. According to official notifications:

  • 16 women have been appointed among the 42 Additional Government Advocates.
  • 10 women have been appointed among the 27 High Court Government Pleaders.

This reflects increasing representation of women in important legal positions within the State government.

Duration of the Karnataka Law Officers Appointment

The government has clarified that these appointments will remain effective for one year, or until further orders are issued by the government, whichever occurs earlier.

What Does a State Public Prosecutor Do?

A State Public Prosecutor is a senior lawyer who represents the government in criminal cases before courts. Their responsibilities include:

  • Presenting the government’s case in court.
  • Assisting law enforcement agencies during prosecutions.
  • Providing legal guidance to government departments.
  • Ensuring criminal cases are handled according to the law.

These officers play a key role in the justice system and help ensure that court proceedings are conducted fairly.
