Katni, MP: In a significant achievement for policing and public administration, Katni Police in Madhya Pradesh, has been awarded ISO 9001:2015 certification for 13 police stations, two SDOP offices and the Superintendent of Police (SP) Office, marking a major step towards quality-driven, citizen-centric policing.

The ISO certificates were formally presented in the esteemed presence of Additional Director General (ADG), Jabalpur Zone, Shri Pramod Verma, who congratulated the officers and staff for their commitment to excellence, transparency and continuous improvement in police services.

The certification reflects Katni Police’s sustained efforts to establish standardized procedures, improve public service delivery and create a more efficient, accountable and professional policing system.

Recognition for Quality Management

ISO 9001:2015 is an internationally recognised quality management standard that certifies an organisation’s ability to consistently deliver services through well-defined processes, continuous monitoring and customer-focused improvements.

Receiving this certification signifies that Katni Police has successfully implemented robust systems for administration, documentation, grievance redressal, public interaction, record management and operational efficiency in accordance with global quality standards.

A Vision of SMART Policing

The initiative aligns with the vision of creating a SMART Police force—Strict and Sensitive, Modern and Mobile, Alert and Accountable, Reliable and Responsive, Tech-savvy and Trained.

According to the vision document, Katni district presently has 13 police stations, two Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDOP) offices and the office of the Superintendent of Police, all of which have now adopted quality management systems under ISO standards.

The district police have focused on strengthening administrative procedures while ensuring that citizens receive transparent, timely and efficient services.

Leadership Behind the Initiative

The transformation has been carried out under the leadership of senior police officers and with the guidance of the Madhya Pradesh Police.

The brochure highlights the vision of Director General of Police (DGP) Dr. Mohan Yadav, who has emphasised making policing more effective through e-governance, online services, digital records, transparency and modern management practices. The DGP has consistently advocated for adopting technology-driven systems to enhance public trust and improve service delivery.

The initiative also received strong support from ADG Jabalpur Zone Shri Pramod Verma, who stressed that policing must continuously evolve in response to changing societal needs. He underlined the importance of quality management, professional work culture, improved infrastructure and citizen satisfaction as essential components of modern policing.

Citizen-Centric Policing

The certification process involved comprehensive improvements across police establishments with a focus on making police stations more accessible, organised and public-friendly.

The key objectives include:

  • Delivering transparent and prompt public services.
  • Improving grievance registration and disposal.
  • Standardising office procedures.
  • Strengthening record management.
  • Enhancing accountability and monitoring.
  • Promoting professional behaviour among police personnel.
  • Building greater public confidence in the police.

The district police have also adopted modern documentation systems and streamlined administrative processes to reduce delays and improve efficiency.

Infrastructure and Workplace Improvements

As part of the quality management initiative, extensive efforts have been made to upgrade police infrastructure.

Several police stations and offices have undergone renovation and modernization.

The improvements include:

  • Better reception and waiting areas for visitors.
  • Modern office layouts.
  • Dedicated record rooms.
  • Improved conference facilities.
  • Clean and organised workspaces.
  • Better storage systems.
  • Enhanced public help desks.
  • Digital facilities and improved office management.

The brochure also showcases extensive “Before and After” transformations, highlighting substantial improvements in police station buildings, interiors, office spaces and public facilities.

Focus on Public Welfare and Community Engagement

Beyond administrative reforms, Katni Police has also strengthened its community outreach programmes.

The initiative includes greater emphasis on:

  • Community policing.
  • Public awareness campaigns.
  • Women’s safety initiatives.
  • Citizen participation.
  • Better communication with local communities.
  • Improved emergency response mechanisms.

These efforts aim to create stronger trust between the police and the public while ensuring that policing remains responsive to the needs of society.

Commitment to Continuous Improvement

Officials said that obtaining ISO certification is not the final goal but the beginning of a culture of continuous improvement.

Regular audits, internal reviews, staff training and quality monitoring will ensure that the certified standards are maintained and enhanced over time.

The district police have reiterated their commitment to providing professional, transparent and people-friendly policing while embracing innovation and modern management practices.

A Milestone for Madhya Pradesh Police

The achievement places Katni Police among the police units that have successfully adopted internationally recognised quality management systems.

The certification demonstrates that effective policing is not limited to law enforcement alone but also includes efficient administration, accountability, quality service delivery and citizen satisfaction.

The recognition is expected to serve as a model for other districts aiming to modernise police administration and improve public trust through internationally accepted quality standards.

Congratulating the entire district police force, ADG Shri Pramod Verma acknowledged the dedication and teamwork of officers and staff whose sustained efforts made this milestone possible.
