New Delhi: In a major administrative move, the Ministry of Power, Government of India, has announced the initiation of the selection process to fill three key leadership positions at the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC). The posts include Chairman, Member-Secretary, and Member (Finance), which will be filled through a Search-cum-Selection Committee (SCSC) mechanism. These appointments are being considered vital for DVC’s continued growth, administrative efficiency, and strategic direction.
All three positions are based at DVC’s headquarters in Kolkata and carry a fixed term of five years or up to the candidate’s superannuation, whichever is earlier.
DVC’s Strategic Role
Established under the Damodar Valley Corporation Act, 1948, DVC is one of India’s oldest statutory power utilities. It plays a key role in power generation, transmission, flood control, and irrigation in the eastern region, particularly in Jharkhand and West Bengal. Strengthening its top leadership is seen as critical to aligning with national energy reforms and improving institutional performance.
Positions Open & Key Responsibilities
The Ministry is recruiting for three top-level roles. The Chairman will serve as the CEO and head of the Corporation, responsible for strategic vision, policy-making, and overall management. Candidates must be between 45 and 58 years old and are expected to have leadership experience in the power sector, finance, or management. An MBA qualification is desirable.
The Member-Secretary will manage key administrative responsibilities, including personnel policy, industrial relations, land acquisition, CSR initiatives, and organizing Board meetings. Applicants must be aged 45 to 55, hold a postgraduate degree (preferably in HR or Industrial Relations), and have senior-level administrative experience in a large organization.
The Member (Finance) will handle all financial operations, including audits, accounts, fundraising, commercial strategy, and financial policy development. Eligible candidates should be aged between 45 and 58 years and must hold professional credentials such as CA, Cost Accountant, or MBA in Finance, along with proven senior-level corporate finance experience.

- Central or State Governments
- Union Territories
- All India Services (including Armed Forces)
- Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs)
- Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC)
