Indian Masterminds Stories

Bhopal: Four officers from the Madhya Pradesh State Police Service, recently inducted into the Indian Police Service, have been allotted their respective IPS service years, over two months after being granted IPS status in December 2025.

The allocation has clarified seniority among officers from the same State Police Service batch and recognizes their years of service in the force.

Officers Awarded IPS Status and Service Year Allocation

The four officers who received IPS status are:

  • Vikrant Murav (1997 batch) – allotted service year 2016, 27 years of service.
  • Surendra Kumar Jain (1998 batch) – allotted service year 2016, 26 years of service.
  • Ashish Khare (1998 batch) – allotted service year 2016, 26 years of service.
  • Rajesh Raghuvanshi (1998 batch) – allotted service year 2017, 23 years of service.

The officers were officially inducted into the IPS in December 2025, and the service year allocation in March 2026 establishes their seniority within the cadre.

Notable Seniority Decisions

A significant aspect of the allocation is that two officers from the 1998 batch—Surendra Kumar Jain and Ashish Khare—have been placed senior to Rajesh Raghuvanshi, also from the same batch.

This seniority ranking is based on years of service and batch seniority, a common practice in the Indian Police Service to determine career progression, promotions, and postings.

Career Backgrounds of the Officers

  • Vikrant Murav joined the police service in 1997 and has completed 27 years of service.
  • Surendra Kumar Jain and Ashish Khare joined on September 26, 1998, each completing 26 years of service.
  • Rajesh Raghuvanshi joined on March 20, 2001, completing 23 years of service.

Their induction into the IPS is a culmination of decades of service and performance in the State Police Service, marking a key milestone in their careers.

Importance of Service Year Allocation

The allotment of IPS service years is crucial because it:

  • Determines seniority within the IPS cadre.
  • Affects promotion timelines and posting eligibility.
  • Recognizes experience and service tenure, ensuring fair placement among peers.

The decision reinforces the structured career progression system of the Indian Police Service, balancing batch seniority and individual service record.
