Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has directed the Energy Department to aggressively promote the use of solar energy across the state, from villages to urban areas. Chairing a high-level review meeting at the state secretariat in Bhopal, the Chief Minister stressed the need to ensure greater availability of solar pumps for farmers and solar-powered equipment for domestic consumers.
He said the state must continue using traditional energy sources while significantly expanding renewable energy infrastructure to meet future power demands sustainably.
CM Calls for Increased Availability of Solar Equipment
During the review meeting, Dr. Yadav instructed officials to prioritize:
- Expansion of solar energy usage at every level
- Availability of solar pumps for farmers
- Promotion of solar equipment for households
- Completion of electrification work in remote habitations and tribal settlements
The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of implementing energy-saving measures consistently across the state.
Madhya Pradesh Renewable Energy Capacity Rises to 33%
Officials informed the Chief Minister that Madhya Pradesh has achieved significant progress in renewable energy generation.
Key achievements include:
- Renewable energy share increased from 25% in March 2024 to 33% in March 2026
- Renewable energy production rose from 5,690 MW to 8,608 MW
- Solar energy contributes 5,376 MW
- Wind and other renewable sources contribute 3,232 MW
The government termed this growth a major milestone in the state’s clean energy transition.
Record Power Supply and Reduced Transmission Losses
The Energy Department informed the meeting that Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company has maintained reliable power generation across the state.
Major achievements highlighted include:
- Record peak power supply of 19,895 MW on January 14
- Transmission losses reduced to 2.60%
- Transmission availability maintained at 99.52%
The Chief Minister congratulated the power generation company for remaining profitable and delivering efficient services.
Smart Meter Installation and Consumer Relief Under Samadhan Yojana
Officials said work on smart meter installation is progressing rapidly across the state.
Highlights include:
- Over 40 lakh smart meters installed
- More than 47,000 prepaid meters operational in government offices
- 139% physical progress achieved under prepaid metering initiative
Under the Samadhan Yojana 2025-26, consumers received surcharge waivers on delayed electricity bill payments.
As a result:
- Liabilities worth ₹1,970 crore were resolved
- Consumers received surcharge relief of ₹473 crore
Energy Department Praised for Technological Innovations
CM Mohan Yadav praised several technological innovations introduced by the Energy Department over the past two and a half years.
Major Innovations Highlighted
- Drone-based power line patrolling reduced line tripping by 35%
- Around 10,000 towers of 220 KV lines monitored successfully
- Drone patrolling currently underway for 23,000 towers of 400 KV and 132 KV lines
- Insulated work platform innovation implemented in Bhopal, Jabalpur, Indore, and Damoh
- Live-line maintenance using bare-hand and hot-stick technology
- 257 live-line operations conducted last year
- Operational simulators being installed for training engineers and field staff
Central Assistance Boosts Energy Infrastructure
Additional Chief Secretary Neeraj Mandloi informed the meeting that better coordination with the central government helped secure major grants for the state.
Key Central Support Projects
- ₹5.08 crore grant for Jabalpur Islanding Scheme under One Nation One Grid
- ₹13.61 crore grant for strengthening cyber security at State Load Dispatch Centre
- Installation of 10,752 km Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) network with central assistance of ₹146 crore
Electrification Achievements in Tribal Areas
The state government also highlighted electrification work in tribal regions under central welfare schemes.
Major Tribal Electrification Achievements
- Electrification benefits provided to over 63,000 tribal households
- More than 28,000 homes of Baiga, Sahariya, and Bharia communities electrified under PM Janman Scheme
- Around 18,000 infrastructure works completed under agricultural feeder separation and HT line capacity expansion
The Chief Minister described electrification in tribal areas as a significant achievement and instructed officials to ensure all eligible families receive benefits.
