Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday virtually inaugurated the Satna-Devendra Nagar and Rewa-Churhat railway lines and flagged off the Devendra Nagar-Churhat train service. The development is expected to strengthen rail connectivity across the Vindhya and Bundelkhand regions and provide fresh momentum to regional trade, industry and public transportation.
The virtual inauguration was attended by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav from Sardarpur in Dhar district, while the main events were organised at Nagod and Churhat railway stations.
Describing the development as a major railway gift for Vindhya and Bundelkhand, the Chief Minister said the project would play an important role in taking Madhya Pradesh into a new phase of development. He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for supporting railway infrastructure expansion in the state.
Approximately 541-Km Railway Project to Improve Regional Connectivity
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav highlighted that the railway project, spanning approximately 541 kilometres, would expand the rail network and benefit areas that have long required better railway connectivity.
The improved network is expected to strengthen links between Satna, Panna, Rewa, Sidhi, Singrauli and other parts of Vindhya and Bundelkhand. It will also improve connectivity between Madhya Pradesh and neighbouring Uttar Pradesh.
According to the Chief Minister, better rail transportation will help farmers transport their agricultural produce to larger markets, expand commercial activities and improve logistics facilities. Students and other residents will also benefit from additional and more convenient travel options.
The project is expected to support regional development by improving access to important destinations and creating opportunities for greater economic activity across the connected districts.

Rail Connectivity to Boost Trade, Industry and Employment Opportunities
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw described the new railway connectivity as a potential lifeline for Vindhya and Bundelkhand, noting that the initiative would help fulfil a long-standing demand of residents in these historically and culturally significant regions.
He said improved connectivity around Satna, Devendra Nagar, Rewa and Churhat would encourage industrial development and strengthen the local economy.
The railway expansion is also expected to create opportunities for developing new industrial corridors by facilitating the movement of goods, improving logistics and connecting businesses with wider markets.
Vaishnaw added that better rail services would make healthcare and other essential services more accessible to residents. Improved transportation infrastructure is expected to benefit communities, businesses and industries across the region.
Madhya Pradesh Railway Projects Worth ₹1.5 Lakh Crore Underway
The Union Railway Minister stated that railway projects worth approximately ₹1.5 lakh crore are being undertaken in Madhya Pradesh.
Alongside railway line expansion, work is progressing on the redevelopment of railway stations and the improvement of passenger facilities across the state.
Stations in Khajuraho, Gwalior and other locations are undergoing development. Vaishnaw said the railway station at the UNESCO World Heritage site of Khajuraho is being developed into a grand facility.
He also highlighted the planned transformation of Gwalior railway station, stating that its design and facilities would be comparable to those of major airports.
These initiatives are part of broader efforts to modernise railway infrastructure, improve the passenger experience and strengthen transport connectivity throughout Madhya Pradesh.
More Than 100 Train Services Planned for Madhya Pradesh
Vaishnaw said efforts were underway to introduce more than 100 long- and short-distance train services in Madhya Pradesh in the coming period.
The state is also expected to see the introduction of several Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) trains in the coming years.
The planned expansion of train services is aimed at improving regional mobility, providing more travel options for passengers and strengthening connections between smaller towns and major urban centres.
The minister emphasised that Indian Railways was working to expand services and infrastructure while remaining committed to the needs of citizens across the country.
Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga-Khandwa Railway Line to Be Inaugurated Soon
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also announced that the railway line connecting Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga and Khandwa would be inaugurated soon.
The proposed inauguration is expected to be significant for religious tourism and connectivity to Omkareshwar, one of India’s revered Jyotirlinga pilgrimage sites.
Yadav said railway infrastructure expansion was progressing rapidly across Madhya Pradesh, with modern services such as Vande Bharat trains already operating in the state.
He expressed confidence that the ongoing investments in railway infrastructure would contribute to the state’s economic growth and improve transportation facilities for residents and visitors.
Railway Development to Strengthen Madhya Pradesh-Uttar Pradesh Connectivity
The new railway infrastructure is expected to improve links between Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, making travel and the movement of goods more convenient.
Improved connectivity across the Vindhya and Bundelkhand regions could benefit farmers, traders, industrial units, students and tourists by reducing transportation barriers and facilitating access to larger economic centres.
The expansion is also expected to support the movement of agricultural products and industrial goods, helping local producers access wider markets and strengthening the regional supply chain.
The inauguration marks another step in the expansion and modernisation of Madhya Pradesh’s railway network, with a focus on connecting underserved areas and supporting balanced regional development.
Senior Leaders and Railway Officials Attend Inauguration
The events at Nagod and Churhat railway stations were attended by Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla; Minister of State for Urban Development and Housing Pratima Bagri; Satna MP Ganesh Singh; Rewa MP Janardan Mishra; Khajuraho MP Vishnu Dutt Sharma; and Sidhi MP Dr. Rajesh Mishra.
Senior railway officials, including General Manager Dilip Kumar and Jabalpur Division Divisional Railway Manager K.K. Talreja, were also present, along with other public representatives, railway officers and distinguished citizens.
