Madhya Pradesh Students Achieve 15 Lakh Biometric Updates Under ‘Aadhaar at School’ Initiative

State Education Department, UIDAI, and Schools Collaborate to Ensure Seamless Access to Admissions, Scholarships, and Competitive Exams
Indian Masterminds Stories

Bhopal: Over 15 lakh students in Madhya Pradesh have successfully completed the mandatory biometric update (MBU) under the state’s initiative ‘Aadhaar for Students, Now at School’, aimed at providing students easier access to educational services. The campaign is being implemented jointly by the School Education Department, State Education Center, and the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).

Mandatory Biometric Update Required for Admission, Scholarships, and Exams

Students are required to have their Aadhaar updated with the latest biometrics to access school admissions, competitive exam applications, scholarships, and Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes. The importance of biometric updates has increased significantly following directives from examination agencies, including NTA and UPSC, requiring Aadhaar-based identification for exams such as JEE and NEET.

What is Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU)?

Under MBU, a student’s Aadhaar is updated with photo, iris scan, and fingerprints. The updates are scheduled as follows:

  • First MBU: Upon completion of 5 years of age
  • Second MBU: Upon completion of 15 years of age

The process is completely free for children aged 5 to 17 years.

Schools Monitor Updates via UDISE+ Portal

In collaboration with UIDAI and the Department of School Education & Literacy, schools can track pending MBUs of their students through the UDISE+ portal. This monitoring system allows timely intervention to ensure all students complete their updates.

Over 2,000 Special MBU Camps Held in Four Months

Launched on August 15, 2025, the campaign has organized over 2,000 special MBU camps across the state by December 31, 2025. Through these camps and Aadhaar service centers, more than 15 lakh students have successfully updated their biometrics.

CBSE Schools Directed to Ensure Completion

The CBSE regional office in Madhya Pradesh has directed all affiliated schools to motivate students and parents to complete pending MBUs at the earliest.

Campaign to Continue Through Academic Session

The School Education Department, State Education Center, and UIDAI have confirmed that the initiative will continue until the end of the current academic session, with special focus on rural and tribal areas to maximize participation.

This initiative ensures students’ Aadhaar details remain updated, enabling seamless access to scholarships, exams, and government educational schemes, while strengthening the link between students and digital services in Madhya Pradesh.
