Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav announced that the Mukhyamantri Sugam Parivahan Bus Seva will begin across the state on September 25. The initiative aims to create a modern, safe, reliable, affordable and technology-enabled public transport network, with a target of connecting 75% of villages by 2030.

Dr. Yadav made the announcement while inaugurating the two-day Yaatri Parivahan Vision Summit-2026 at the Brilliant Convention Centre in Indore on Friday.

Focus on Rural and Intercity Connectivity

Madhya Pradesh has around 5 lakh kilometres of road network and the potential to operate more than 15,000 buses. The new service is expected to improve connectivity between villages, towns and cities while also supporting the large number of tourists and pilgrims travelling across the state.

The government plans to develop approximately 150 city, 450 intercity and 436 interstate routes based on route surveys conducted across all 55 districts.

The buses will prioritise electric and CNG technologies and include CCTV cameras, GPS, panic buttons and real-time monitoring facilities.

PPP Model and Digital Transport System

The service will operate through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with Madhya Pradesh Yatri Parivahan and Infrastructure Limited (MPYPIL) playing a central role in bus operations, transport infrastructure and the Intelligent Transport Management System (ITMS).

The broader plan includes modern bus terminals, depots, bus stands and bus stops, along with digital ticketing and real-time passenger information.

Transport Minister Uday Pratap Singh said the state is moving towards cleaner and safer mobility while ensuring better connectivity between remote rural areas and cities.

MP Signs MoU With Rapido

MPYPIL also signed an MoU with Rapido to strengthen first- and last-mile connectivity. The partnership will integrate information on bus stands, bus stops and metro stations with Rapido’s technology platform.

The pilot will initially be implemented in Bhopal and Indore, with the women-operated ‘Rapido Pink’ bike-taxi service also being promoted as part of inclusive mobility.

Innovation Challenge Launched

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav launched the MP Mobility Innovation Challenge 2026 to encourage startups, MSMEs, researchers, academic institutions and innovators to develop solutions for transportation challenges.

The challenge will focus on:

  • AI and data-driven intelligent mobility
  • Inclusive mobility and last-mile connectivity
  • Financial and operational sustainability
  • Green mobility
  • Transport infrastructure
  • The summit also featured an exhibition showcasing new public transport technologies and innovations.
  • Electric Bus Manufacturing Gets Push

Eka Mobility is establishing its fourth plant at Pithampur for electric bus manufacturing. The facility, completed in 14 months, is expected to have an annual production capacity of 5,000 electric buses.

Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava said electric buses could help prevent more than 70,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually, while also supporting cleaner public transport.

20-Year Transport Transformation

Dr. Yadav described the revival of Madhya Pradesh’s state bus service as an opportunity for a major transformation over the next 20 years. He said the “One State, One Bus Service” approach would make travel easier for citizens while creating employment opportunities.

With growing tourism, expanding highways, metro services in Bhopal and Indore, and increasing adoption of electric mobility, the government sees public transport as an important part of Madhya Pradesh’s future development.

The Passenger Transport Vision Summit 2026, being held on September 11-12, brings together more than 2,000 delegates and 100 industry experts to shape a safer, greener and technology-enabled mobility ecosystem for the state.
