Mahasamund: Students in Mahasamund, Chhattisgarh, are set to benefit from modern academic infrastructure as the under-construction Central Library in the district is planned to be developed into a state-of-the-art digital learning centre, offering advanced facilities for preparation for major competitive examinations such as IIT-JEE, NEET, UPSC, PSC and SSC.
The initiative gained momentum after Professor Sanjeev Karmakar Vashishth, State Co-convener of the Bharatiya Janata Party Education Cell, met Vinay Kumar Langeh and submitted a set of recommendations aimed at transforming the upcoming facility into a modern academic resource centre rather than a conventional library.
District Administration Targets Completion Within 2 to 3 Months
During the meeting, Professor Vashishth urged the district administration to accelerate construction work so that students can begin using the facility at the earliest.
Responding positively, Collector Vinay Kumar Langeh assured that the district administration is working actively to complete the construction and open the library within the next two to three months.
According to the district administration, the goal is to make the library operational quickly while incorporating technology-driven educational facilities suited to current student needs.
Library to Go Beyond Traditional Books and Reading Spaces
Professor Vashishth emphasized that in the present era, the library should not remain limited to printed books and reading halls.
He proposed that the facility should be developed as:
• A digital library
• A professional training centre
• A competitive exam preparation hub
The proposal aims to align district-level educational infrastructure with changing learning patterns, where students increasingly depend on digital content, online lectures and technology-enabled preparation methods.
Competitive Exam Coaching Facilities Proposed Inside Library
One of the major recommendations includes integrating coaching support for national and state-level competitive examinations.
Suggested courses include preparation support for:
• IIT-JEE
• NEET
• UPSC
• PSC
• SSC
This would allow students to access quality preparation locally instead of depending entirely on private coaching centres in bigger cities.
Online Subscription-Based Learning Model Suggested
Professor Vashishth proposed that the library should include subscription-based digital learning access, enabling students to use structured online teaching platforms.
This may include:
• recorded lectures
• online live classes
• subject-wise learning modules
• test series access
• digital mentorship resources
Such a model can help bridge the gap between urban coaching ecosystems and district-level student access.
Digital Books and E-Notes to Be Made Available
The proposed learning centre may also provide:
• digital books
• downloadable notes
• e-learning content
• exam preparation materials accessible remotely
Students would be able to download study materials and continue preparation from home or rural areas.
Rural Students Expected to Benefit Most
A major focus of the proposal is extending quality educational support to talented students coming from remote villages of the district.
If a professional training centre is established within the library campus, students from rural areas will gain access to:
• advanced preparation material
• digital academic resources
• structured guidance for prestigious exams
This could reduce dependence on migration to larger cities for coaching.
Traditional Library Model Needs Modern Transformation
Professor Vashishth observed that the traditional library system has remained largely unchanged for nearly 100 to 150 years and now requires modernization.
He suggested replacing older formats with:
• digital content systems
• smart learning tools
• internet-enabled study zones
• updated educational delivery models
Collector Assures Positive Inclusion in Action Plan
Collector Vinay Kumar Langeh welcomed the suggestions and assured that the proposals would be examined positively for inclusion in the project’s final operational framework.
He stated that if implemented effectively, the Central Library could become a major educational milestone for the district.
Potential Educational Impact on Mahasamund District
The project is expected to:
• raise educational standards in the district
• strengthen competitive exam outcomes
• create equal opportunity for rural youth
• improve local academic infrastructure
