MCL Signs MoU with Talcher Fertilizers for Eco-Friendly Fly Ash Disposal and Sustainable Mine Reclamation

The partnership will use HCSD technology to safely transport and scientifically dispose of fly ash from TFL’s coal gasification-based Ammonia Urea Project at MCL’s Jagannath Open Cast Project.

New Delhi: Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Talcher Fertilizers Limited (TFL) for the safe, scientific, and environmentally responsible disposal of fly ash generated from TFL’s upcoming coal gasification-based Ammonia Urea Project at Talcher.

The agreement aims to strengthen sustainable ash management practices while supporting scientific mine reclamation and responsible environmental management in accordance with guidelines issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC).

MCL and TFL Partner for Eco-Friendly Fly Ash Management

The MoU was signed at MCL’s Corporate Office in Burla and will facilitate the transportation and disposal of fly ash generated from TFL’s upcoming project.

Under the agreement, fly ash will be transported through the High Concentration Slurry Disposal (HCSD) system and scientifically disposed of at MCL’s Jagannath Open Cast Project.

The initiative is designed to ensure safe handling of industrial waste while reducing the environmental impact associated with fly ash disposal.

HCSD Technology to Support Sustainable Disposal

The use of the HCSD system will enable efficient transportation of fly ash in a controlled and environmentally friendly manner.

  • Reduce environmental risks
  • Improve waste management efficiency
  • Support sustainable mining operations

The collaboration reflects the commitment of both organizations toward adopting advanced solutions for responsible industrial development.

Supporting Scientific Mine Reclamation

The partnership will also contribute to scientific mine reclamation by utilizing mined-out areas for environmentally responsible ash disposal.

Through proper reclamation practices, the initiative is expected to help restore mining areas while promoting sustainable land management.

The project aligns with national priorities focused on balancing industrial growth with environmental protection.

Aligned with MoEF&CC Environmental Guidelines

MCL stated that the collaboration follows the environmental guidelines issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC).

The agreement highlights the efforts of both companies to reduce the ecological impact of fly ash generation and disposal while promoting sustainable practices in the coal and fertilizer sectors.
