New Delhi: Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI), a Defence PSU under the Ministry of Defence, is strengthening India’s drive towards self-reliance in aerospace propulsion through the development and indigenisation of advanced materials and critical alloys for aero-engine applications.
The Hyderabad-based company has partnered with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) across various indigenous aero-engine programmes, supplying critical materials developed through its expertise in advanced metallurgy and indigenous materials technology.
MIDHANI Supports Indigenous Aero-Engine Programmes
MIDHANI has played an important role in the indigenisation of critical materials required for demanding aerospace applications. Its contributions include single-crystal superalloys and other high-temperature materials used in aero-engine applications.
These advanced materials are critical for developing aerospace propulsion systems that can withstand extreme temperatures and demanding operating conditions.
MIDHANI’s partnership with HAL is aimed at strengthening domestic capabilities across the aero-engine ecosystem and reducing dependence on imported strategic materials.

HAL’s 2,000th Aero-Engine Marks Major Milestone
The delivery of the 2,000th aero-engine at HAL’s Koraput Division marks a significant milestone in India’s growing indigenous aero-engine ecosystem.
The achievement also highlights the importance of strategic materials and advanced alloys in building domestic capabilities for critical aerospace and defence applications.
MIDHANI said its contribution to various aero-engine programmes was recognised by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and HAL Chairman and Managing Director Ravi K.
The milestone reflects the expanding capabilities of Indian organisations involved in the design, development, manufacturing and supply of critical components and materials for aerospace propulsion.
MIDHANI Reaffirms Focus on Critical Materials
Commenting on the milestone, MIDHANI Chairman and Managing Director Dr SVS Narayana Murty said self-reliance in critical materials is essential for achieving self-reliance in aero-engines.
“The journey towards self-reliance in aero-engines begins with self-reliance in critical materials. MIDHANI is proud to partner HAL and the nation’s aerospace ecosystem in developing and indigenising advanced alloys for demanding aero-engine applications,” he said.
Murty added that the 2,000th engine milestone reflects the growing indigenous capability of India’s aerospace sector.
He also reaffirmed MIDHANI’s commitment to developing strategic materials required for the country’s current and future aerospace programmes.
Strengthening India’s Aerospace Self-Reliance
MIDHANI’s work in advanced metallurgy and specialised alloys supports India’s broader objective of developing a self-reliant aerospace and defence manufacturing ecosystem.
By developing critical materials domestically and supporting indigenous aero-engine programmes, the company is contributing to the creation of stronger supply chains for strategic aerospace applications.
The partnership with HAL also underlines the importance of collaboration among India’s Defence PSUs in advancing indigenous propulsion technologies and strengthening the country’s long-term aerospace capabilities.
