Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government has provided pucca houses to 39,815 rural families under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) since 2022, giving thousands of families a permanent roof over their heads.
According to the figures shared by the state government, Udham Singh Nagar recorded the highest number of houses at 4,882, followed by Haridwar with 4,493 and Rudraprayag with 4,032.
The PMAY-G scheme is aimed at providing pucca houses with basic amenities to homeless families and those living in kutcha or dilapidated houses.
PMAY-G Provides Housing Support to Rural Families
Launched in 2016, PMAY-G seeks to provide pucca houses with basic amenities to eligible rural households.
In Uttarakhand, beneficiaries receive ₹1.30 lakh in financial assistance per house, with payments made directly into their bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
The scheme also provides support through convergence with other government programmes for essential household facilities.

Udham Singh Nagar Leads District-Wise Housing Construction
The district-wise figures provided by the state government are:
- Udham Singh Nagar: 4,882 houses
- Haridwar: 4,493 houses
- Rudraprayag: 4,032 houses
- Chamoli: 3,900 houses
- Pithoragarh: 3,386 houses
- Pauri: 3,195 houses
- Uttarkashi: 3,057 houses
- Dehradun: 2,839 houses
- Champawat: 2,789 houses
- Bageshwar: 2,279 houses
- Tehri: 2,134 houses
- Nainital: 1,480 houses
- Almora: 1,349 houses
Kitchen Assistance Increased to ₹6,000
Under a decision announced by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the additional assistance provided to beneficiaries for purchasing kitchen utensils and other kitchen-related items was increased from ₹5,000 to ₹6,000 from 2022-23 onwards.
₹12,000 Assistance for Toilet Construction
Beneficiaries are also eligible for ₹12,000 for toilet construction under the Swachh Bharat Mission through MGNREGA/SWajal.
The PMAY-G framework also provides for 95 person-days of unskilled labour wages under MGNREGA for house construction.
In addition, eligible households can benefit from basic amenities through convergence with other government schemes, including drinking water, electricity and clean cooking fuel.
Dhami Government Focuses on Housing for Needy Families
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has emphasised the goal of providing pucca houses to needy and homeless families in rural Uttarakhand.
The state government said the Chief Minister has taken up the issue of additional housing allocations with the Centre and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The government has also highlighted the role of housing support in improving living conditions while expanding access to basic amenities for rural families.
PMAY-G Supports Uttarakhand’s Rural Housing Goals
The Uttarakhand Rural Development Department states that PMAY-G focuses on housing for homeless rural families and households living in kutcha or dilapidated houses. The scheme combines housing assistance with support for sanitation and other essential facilities.
The state government said it will continue working to expand housing support and ensure that eligible rural families benefit from the scheme.
