54th Zonal Mine Rescue Competition Concludes at MOIL Mansar Mine; Women’s Team Clinches Top Honours

A total of 14 teams from WCL, MOIL, HCL, RCCL, and Sunflag participated in the three-day event, highlighting safety excellence and teamwork in the mining sector.

Nagpur: The 54th Zonal Mine Rescue Competition concluded with great enthusiasm and participation at Mansar Mine of MOIL India Limited. The prestigious event was jointly organized by MOIL India Limited and Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) from October 12 to 14, 2025, showcasing the skill, discipline, and readiness of mine rescue teams across the region.

14 Teams Compete for Top Honors

A total of 14 teams from WCL, MOIL India Limited, HCL, RCCL, and Sunflag participated in this year’s competition. Among them were 12 men’s teams and 2 women’s teams, reflecting the increasing representation and contribution of women in mine safety and rescue operations.

The competition aimed to enhance preparedness, coordination, and technical capability of mine rescue teams in emergency situations, ensuring safer mining operations.

WCL Nagpur and WCL Women’s Team Secure First Place

In the men’s category, the WCL Nagpur Area team clinched the first position, followed by the WCL Chandrapur Area team in second place and MOIL India Limited in third.

In the women’s category, the WCL Women’s Team secured the first position overall, while the MOIL India Limited Women’s Team finished second. The results highlighted the high level of professionalism and skill displayed by all the participating teams.

Valedictory Ceremony and Dignitaries

The valedictory and prize distribution ceremony was graced by:

  • J. P. Dwivedi, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, WCL
  • Dr. Hemant Pande, Director (Human Resources), WCL
  • Ramavatar Meena, Deputy Director General of Mines Safety (West Zone)
  • Neeraj Kumar, Deputy Director General of Mines Safety (North Zone)
  • Directors of MOIL India Limited

The dignitaries presented trophies and certificates to the winning teams and applauded their dedication and contribution to mine safety and emergency response.

Senior officers from various areas of WCL, officials and employees from MOIL India Limited, HCL, RCCL, and Sunflag attended the event in large numbers. Their active participation and support made the competition a grand success, reinforcing the shared commitment of the mining sector towards safety, teamwork, and excellence.
