Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav directed administrative and police officials to maintain close surveillance at identified drug hotspots and strengthen regular monitoring as part of the state’s efforts against drug abuse.
Yadav held a meeting with collectors and police superintendents through video conferencing and asked officials to focus on preventing drug use among young people. He also directed that the progress of the campaign be reviewed through monthly meetings at the district level.
CM Calls for Coordinated Action Against Drugs
Yadav said the state’s efforts should be aligned with the objectives of the Centre’s Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan. He directed the police and Excise Department to undertake joint action wherever required.

The Chief Minister also called for continued review of measures being taken against the production, sale, consumption and trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
2,706 Cases Registered Under NDPS Act This Year
During the meeting, officials presented data on action taken under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
According to the presentation, 2,706 cases have been registered in Madhya Pradesh this year in connection with offences involving narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
Officials said 3,690 accused persons had been linked to these cases and that 46,313 kg of narcotic substances had been seized up to August 2026.
Drug-Free Measures Around Educational Institutions
Officials also informed the meeting about measures being undertaken around educational institutions. These include efforts to maintain drug-free premises within a 500-metre radius of educational institutions and action concerning the seizure of prohibited cough syrups.
The administration is also working with Nasha Mukt Mitras and strengthening the role of de-addiction centres at the district level, according to the officials’ presentation.
A Nasha Mukt Helpline, 14446, has also been put in place as part of the state’s measures against drug abuse.
Monthly District Reviews Planned
Yadav directed officials to maintain regular monitoring of the measures being taken at the district level. He also emphasised keeping a close watch on locations identified as drug hotspots and continuing action against those involved in drug-related offences.
The meeting forms part of the Madhya Pradesh government’s ongoing review of measures related to drug prevention, enforcement and de-addiction.
