MP Higher Education Modernisation: 200 Colleges Get Smart Classrooms, 212 Receive High-Speed Internet

Madhya Pradesh is expanding digital infrastructure across government colleges with smart classrooms, computer labs, digital studios, e-books and high-speed internet to strengthen technology-driven higher education under NEP 2020.

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh is accelerating the modernisation of its higher education system by expanding digital infrastructure across government colleges. Under the Higher Education Department’s initiatives and in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, colleges are being equipped with smart classrooms, high-speed internet, digital studios, modern computer laboratories and e-learning resources to create a technology-enabled and student-centric learning environment.

The initiative aims to improve the quality of higher education, strengthen digital skills and enhance the employability of students by providing access to modern educational facilities.

Madhya Pradesh Strengthens Digital Higher Education Infrastructure

Over the past few years, the Higher Education Department has undertaken major infrastructure and digital education projects to modernise colleges across the state.

Supported by the World Bank-funded Madhya Pradesh Higher Education Quality Improvement Project and other government schemes, institutions are being upgraded with advanced digital learning facilities.

The modernisation programme focuses on:

  • Smart and technology-enabled classrooms.
  • Digital learning resources.
  • Modern laboratories.
  • IT-based teaching systems.
  • Online administrative services.
  • Skill-oriented education aligned with NEP 2020.

The initiative is expected to create a better academic environment while preparing students for future employment opportunities.

Key Achievements of the Digital Education Initiative

The Higher Education Department has expanded digital infrastructure across several government colleges in Madhya Pradesh.

Major achievements include:

  • 212 government colleges equipped with 50 Mbps high-speed internet.
  • 200 government colleges provided with virtual smart classrooms.
  • 123 government colleges equipped with modern computer laboratories.
  • 10 government colleges established with state-of-the-art digital studios.
  • 247 colleges strengthened through infrastructure upgrades and modern facilities.
  • 8 universities and 529 colleges provided access to e-books and digital learning resources.

These initiatives have significantly improved access to technology-based education across the state’s higher education institutions.

Smart Classrooms Enhance Digital Learning

To promote interactive and technology-driven education, the state government has established virtual smart classrooms in 200 government colleges.

The classrooms are equipped with:

  • Interactive digital panels.
  • Cameras.
  • Laptops.
  • Audio-visual equipment.
  • UPS backup systems.
  • Internet connectivity.

These facilities enable students to attend lectures delivered by subject experts and improve access to quality education through virtual learning.

Digital Studios to Boost E-Content Creation

The government has also established 10 advanced digital studios in government colleges.

The digital studios are being used for:

  • Recording lectures by subject experts.
  • Developing high-quality digital learning content.
  • Editing and producing educational videos.
  • Supporting online teaching.
  • Creating quality academic resources for students.

The initiative is expected to expand access to digital educational content and improve online learning across the state.

High-Speed Internet and Computer Labs Improve Digital Skills

The expansion of high-speed internet and modern computer laboratories is aimed at improving students’ digital competencies.

The facilities support:

  • Online classes.
  • Digital libraries.
  • Research activities.
  • E-content access.
  • Webinars and training programmes.
  • Competitive examination guidance.
  • Skill development in information technology.

Currently, 123 colleges have modern computer laboratories, while 100 additional government colleges are in the process of establishing similar facilities.

E-Books and Digital Libraries Expand Learning Resources

The Higher Education Department has also increased access to digital academic resources.

Under the initiative:

  • 8 universities and 529 government colleges have been provided access to e-books.
  • Students can access study material online.
  • Digital resources support self-learning and research activities.
  • Online learning materials improve academic flexibility and accessibility.

The expansion of digital libraries is expected to make quality educational content more accessible to students across the state.

Modernisation to Support Quality and Employment-Oriented Education

The modernisation of higher education institutions is aligned with the objectives of the National Education Policy 2020, which emphasises technology-enabled, multidisciplinary and student-centric education.

By expanding digital infrastructure, strengthening laboratories and improving access to online learning resources, the Madhya Pradesh government aims to:

  • Enhance the quality of higher education.
  • Develop students’ digital and technical skills.
  • Promote research and innovation.
  • Improve employability through skill-based education.
  • Build a future-ready higher education ecosystem.

The ongoing initiatives are expected to transform government colleges into modern learning centres capable of meeting the evolving educational and industry requirements of the digital era.
