Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to expanding medical education and creating better opportunities for young people. He announced that the number of medical college seats in the state will increase to 10,000 in the coming years, while the total number of medical colleges is expected to rise from 34 to 52 within the next two years.

Speaking to media representatives at the helipad in Panna, the Chief Minister said the government is continuously working to improve education, healthcare, and employment prospects for the youth of the state.

Government Focused on Youth Welfare and Employment

Dr Mohan Yadav said the Madhya Pradesh government is implementing various educational programmes and professional courses to enhance employment opportunities for young people.

He emphasised that strengthening medical education is a key priority, as it will not only create career opportunities for students but also improve healthcare services across the state.

According to the Chief Minister, the expansion of medical colleges will benefit both aspiring doctors and citizens by increasing access to quality healthcare.

Medical Colleges to Increase from 34 to 52

Highlighting the rapid expansion of medical education infrastructure, Dr Yadav said Madhya Pradesh currently has 34 medical colleges, and this number is expected to reach 52 within the next two years.

He noted that the government’s continued investment in medical education will significantly strengthen the state’s healthcare ecosystem while addressing the growing demand for trained medical professionals.

Medical Seats to Reach 10,000

The Chief Minister recalled that during 2002–03, Madhya Pradesh had only five medical colleges with around 500 MBBS seats.

He said the state has made remarkable progress over the years:

  • 2002–03: 5 medical colleges with around 500 seats
  • Present: 34 medical colleges with nearly 5,500 seats
  • Future Target: 52 medical colleges and 10,000 medical seats

Dr Yadav said achieving the target of 10,000 medical seats reflects the government’s long-term commitment to strengthening medical education in Madhya Pradesh.

Panna Medical College to Be Inaugurated Next Year

During the inauguration and foundation stone-laying programme in Panna, the Chief Minister announced that the Panna Medical College will be inaugurated next year.

The medical college is being developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, and construction of the campus is progressing rapidly.

He said the project will provide local students with improved access to medical education while strengthening healthcare infrastructure in the region.

Better Healthcare for Panna Residents

Dr Yadav pointed out that residents of Panna district currently have to travel to Satna Medical College or Chhatarpur for specialised medical treatment.

Once the Panna Medical College becomes operational, people in the district are expected to receive advanced healthcare services closer to home, reducing travel time and improving access to specialised treatment.

Government Strengthening Education and Healthcare

The Chief Minister said the state government is simultaneously focusing on education, employment, and healthcare, ensuring that development initiatives directly benefit both students and the general public.

He added that expanding medical education capacity is an important step towards building a stronger healthcare system and creating more opportunities for aspiring medical professionals across Madhya Pradesh.
