Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh will launch the Mukhyamantri Sugam Parivahan Seva on September 25, bringing new intercity and intracity public buses to the state. Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav and Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari will flag off the services at a state-level programme at the BHEL Dussehra Maidan in Bhopal.
Technology-Focused and Safer Bus Services
The new service will use technology to improve passenger safety and bus monitoring. The buses will have GPS and panic buttons, allowing authorities to track their live location and providing passengers with an emergency safety facility.
The Transport Department has also started training drivers to handle modern buses safely. Drivers will receive training in the technology, operation and safety standards of electric and CNG buses, helping ensure smoother operations.

Intercity and Intracity Connectivity
The Mukhyamantri Sugam Parivahan Seva will cover both intercity and intracity routes. Intercity buses will connect two or more cities, while intracity services will operate within cities.
The initiative aims to expand public transport options and provide passengers with more convenient, safe and reliable connectivity across Madhya Pradesh.
15,000 Buses Targeted by 2031
The state government has set a target of expanding the public transport fleet to around 15,000 buses by 2031.
Under the phased plan, around 2,500 to 3,000 new buses will be added every year. This expansion is expected to increase public transport options across different parts of the state and improve connectivity for passengers.
New Driver Training Centres
To prepare drivers for the growing fleet and modern bus technology, Madhya Pradesh has established Institutes of Driving Training and Research (IDTR) in Indore and Chhindwara, where training is already underway.
Five regional driving training centres are also being developed in Bhopal, Betul, Chhatarpur, Ujjain and Gwalior. In addition, 22 district-level driver training centres are planned.
These centres will train drivers in modern vehicle technology, safety standards and the operation of electric and CNG buses, supporting the expansion of the Mukhyamantri Sugam Parivahan Seva.
The new service combines expanded connectivity with technology-enabled monitoring and specialised driver training, forming the foundation for Madhya Pradesh’s planned expansion of public transport over the coming years.
