MRPL Appoints 3 New Independent Directors to Board, MoP&NG Approves 3-Year Tenure 

Lakhan Chandra Mardi, Sharwan Singh Karawasra and Vipin Malviya appointed as Independent Directors on MRPL’s Board for a three-year tenure.

Mangaluru: Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) has appointed Mr. Lakhan Chandra Mardi, Mr. Sharwan Singh Karawasra and Mr. Vipin Malviya as Independent Directors on its Board of Directors.

The appointments were approved by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoP&NG) through a letter dated August 12, 2026. The appointments are for a period of three years from the date of communication or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

MRPL Appoints Three New Independent Directors

The appointment of the three Independent Directors is aimed at strengthening MRPL’s Board and adding diverse professional expertise to its corporate governance and strategic decision-making.

The newly appointed directors are:

  • Mr. Lakhan Chandra Mardi
  • Mr. Sharwan Singh Karawasra
  • Mr. Vipin Malviya

The appointments are effective from August 13, 2026, according to the company’s disclosure.

Lakhan Chandra Mardi: Advocate at Jharkhand High Court

Mr. Lakhan Chandra Mardi holds degrees in Political Science (Honours) and Law.

He is a practising Advocate at the Jharkhand High Court, Ranchi. He has also served as a former member of the T.P.P. Committee of the Government of Jharkhand.

His legal and public-sector experience is expected to contribute to the Board’s governance and oversight functions.

Sharwan Singh Karawasra: Engineering Professional

Mr. Sharwan Singh Karawasra holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Rajasthan University/Engineering College Kota.

He is the Founder and Director of Career Line Coaching Institute. His engineering background and experience in the education sector bring a different professional perspective to MRPL’s Board.

Vipin Malviya: Advocate and Tax Consultant

Mr. Vipin Malviya is a graduate in Commerce and Law from Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University.

He is an Advocate and Tax Consultant and is the proprietor of B. M. Malviya & Co. His experience in legal and taxation matters is expected to add expertise to the company’s Board-level deliberations.

Directors Meet Eligibility Requirements

MRPL has confirmed that the three newly appointed Independent Directors meet the applicable eligibility requirements.

The company stated that:

  • They are not debarred from holding the office of director by any SEBI order or other authority.
  • They are not related to any existing Director of MRPL.
  • They are eligible for appointment under Section 164 of the Companies Act, 2013.

The appointments have been made following the approval conveyed by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

MRPL Strengthens Corporate Governance

The induction of three Independent Directors is expected to strengthen MRPL’s Board-level oversight and corporate governance framework. The diverse backgrounds of the new directors in law, engineering, taxation and professional services could provide broader perspectives for strategic decision-making and operational oversight.
