Hyderabad: Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL), a subsidiary of ONGC and a leading Category-I Miniratna CPSE under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, has been honored with the prestigious Innovation Award 2024-25 for Best Innovation in Research & Development in Refining Technology at the 28th Energy Technology Meet (ETM) 2025. This marks MRPL’s fourth successive win at the Government of India-promoted awards, reinforcing its leadership in indigenous innovation within the refining sector.

MRPL’s “GOAT” Technology: A Groundbreaking Achievement

The award was presented to MRPL for its “Gradual Olefins and Aromatic Technology” (GOAT), an advanced Crude-to-Chemicals process developed by the company’s Research and Development (R&D) team. This breakthrough technology significantly enhances the process of converting crude oil directly into high-value petrochemicals, which is a major leap for India’s refining industry. The GOAT technology has been hailed for its ability to improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon intensity, and contribute to a more sustainable and self-reliant energy sector in India.

By adopting this cutting-edge technology, MRPL is making notable strides towards realizing the country’s goal of a sustainable refining ecosystem. The innovative technology also aligns with India’s broader energy transition goals by advancing decarbonization and circular economy initiatives within the refining and petrochemical sectors.
