Kohima: The Nagaland Police have begun a 21-day motorcycle journey from Kohima to Ekta Nagar in Gujarat as part of the National Motorcycle Rally for Rashtriya Ekta Diwas 2026.
Director General of Police (DGP) Rupin Sharma flagged off the nine-member Nagaland Police contingent at Police Headquarters in Kohima on Wednesday morning. The team will travel around 2,845 kilometres across seven states, combining the message of national unity with public awareness against drug abuse.
The contingent is carrying the campaign message “Break Free, Stay Drug-Free” during its journey. The rally will pass through Nagaland, Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat before reaching Ekta Nagar, home to the Statue of Unity.
21-Day Journey From Northeast to Gujarat
The expedition is planned as a 21-day journey along the eastern corridor. The Nagaland contingent represents Zone-IV (North-East) and will connect with other northeastern contingents at Guwahati before proceeding towards western India.
The long-distance route is designed to bring together police contingents from different parts of the country ahead of the national Rashtriya Ekta Diwas celebrations.
For the Nagaland Police, the journey also provides an opportunity to take the drug-free message beyond the state and engage with communities along the route.

Rally to Cover Seven States
The 2,845-km journey will take the riders through:
- Nagaland
- Assam
- West Bengal
- Bihar
- Uttar Pradesh
- Madhya Pradesh
- Gujarat
The route will connect the Northeast with Ekta Nagar, creating a cross-country platform for the unity and drug-awareness campaign.
The contingent is expected to reach Ekta Nagar on October 27, where it will join other participating teams for joint rehearsals ahead of the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas Parade on October 31.
Nine-Member Team Leads the Expedition
The Nagaland contingent is led by ABSI Asa Chietsotsu, who is serving as the Contingent Commander and Team Leader.
The riding team includes six personnel — UBC Lezovotuo, UBC Kekhrievolie, UBC Rokosatuo, UBC Isilong Hau, Constable Agwasim Seb and UBC Libemo.
Two additional personnel will support the riders throughout the journey. Constable-Driver Thunjanbemo will operate the support vehicle, while Constable-Mechanic Safdar Ali will be responsible for vehicle maintenance and technical support.
The self-contained structure of the team is intended to help the contingent manage its requirements during the long journey across multiple states.
Taking the Drug-Free Message Across India
While Rashtriya Ekta Diwas is centred on national unity, the Nagaland Police contingent is also using the rally to promote awareness against drug abuse.
The message “Break Free, Stay Drug-Free” places substance-abuse prevention alongside the broader theme of unity. By carrying the message across seven states, the contingent aims to use the visibility of the motorcycle rally to highlight the importance of staying away from drugs.
For communities along the route, the expedition can also serve as a public-facing police outreach initiative, connecting national celebrations with a social message that affects young people and families across the country.
From Kohima to Ekta Nagar
The rally will culminate at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat, the site of the Statue of Unity. After reaching the destination on October 27, the Nagaland team will participate in joint rehearsals with other contingents before the main Rashtriya Ekta Diwas Parade on October 31.
The event will bring together participants from different regions, with the Nagaland Police contingent representing the Northeast in the larger national programme.
The journey therefore goes beyond a long-distance motorcycle expedition. It connects the Northeast with western India while combining national integration, police participation and drug-awareness messaging.
As the nine riders travel nearly 2,845 kilometres through seven states, their journey will put the themes of unity and a drug-free society directly on the road, building towards the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas celebrations at Ekta Nagar.
