In a significant operational breakthrough, Nagarnar Steel Limited (NSL) has reported record-breaking production figures across all key units on April 13 and 14, marking a historic milestone since the commissioning of its plant in August 2023.

On April 13, NSL’s Blast Furnace achieved an unprecedented 10,169 tonnes of hot metal in a single day—exceeding its designed maximum capacity of 9,900 tonnes. This corresponds to 2.26 tonnes per cubic metre per day, going beyond the original design parameter of 2.2 tonnes/m³/day, a notable feat for a furnace with a useful volume of 4,506 cubic metres. The achievement underlines the company’s operational efficiency and process excellence in a short span of time.

The momentum continued on April 14, with NSL clocking its highest-ever daily outputs across several critical units:

  • Sinter Plant: 12,385 tonnes of sinter
  • Hot Strip Mill: 8,260 tonnes of hot-rolled coils
  • Steel Melting Shop: 47 heats and 8,600 tonnes of liquid steel

“These historic performances mark a defining moment in our journey as a steel producer,” said Mr. Amitava Mukherjee, Chairman and Managing Director of NMDC Steel. “Surpassing design capacities within months of commissioning demonstrates the extraordinary capabilities of our engineering, operations, and skilled teams. These achievements represent a bold statement of NSL’s readiness to take its place among India’s leading steelmakers.”

Beyond production volumes, NSL’s advances also reflect a strong focus on sustainability. The Blast Furnace is equipped with a state-of-the-art Pulverised Coal Injection (PCI) system, designed to inject 150 kg of coal per tonne of hot metal. Notably, NSL has already stabilized operations above this design threshold, resulting in enhanced fuel efficiency and reduced coke consumption—a strategic step toward greener steel manufacturing.

Despite facing initial delays and logistical challenges, NSL has quickly stabilized its operations, demonstrating robust planning, technical excellence, and execution capabilities. The performance signals NSL’s emergence as a future-ready player in India’s steel industry, contributing to both national production capacity and self-reliance.

With these accomplishments, Nagarnar Steel Limited is poised to play a pivotal role in strengthening India’s steel manufacturing ecosystem, underlining its commitment to world-class quality, sustainability, and growth.
