NALCO Signs MoU with CSIR–NML to Process Red Mud and Recover Rare Earth Elements

New Delhi: National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CSIR–National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML), Jamshedpur, to collaborate on advanced research in red mud processing and enable the recovery of rare earth elements from this industrial by-product. The MoU was signed in the presence of Mr. Brijendra Pratap Singh, CMD of NALCO, and Mr. Jagdish Arora, Director (P&T), along with senior officials from both organizations.

Turning Industrial Waste into Valuable Resources

Red mud, a by-product of alumina refining, poses significant environmental disposal challenges. This collaboration aims to develop sustainable technologies to process red mud efficiently, transforming it from waste into a valuable resource. By enabling the extraction of critical rare earth elements, the initiative supports India’s strategic resource security while minimizing the environmental footprint of industrial operations.

The partnership aligns with NALCO’s long-term vision of innovation-driven growth and environmental stewardship.
