New Delhi: NHPC Limited has informed the stock exchanges that Crisil ESG Ratings & Analytics Ltd has reviewed the company and assigned it an ESG rating of 64 and a Core ESG rating of 74.
The ratings were disclosed by the Navratna public sector enterprise in a communication to the BSE and NSE dated September 21, 2026. The disclosure was made under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.
The communication was signed by Rupa Deb, Company Secretary, NHPC Limited, on behalf of the company.
NHPC Receives ESG Rating of 64
According to the disclosure, Crisil ESG Ratings & Analytics Ltd has assigned NHPC a Crisil ESG Rating of 64.
The ESG rating reflects an assessment based on information and data available in the public domain. Along with the overall ESG rating, the agency has also assigned NHPC a Crisil Core ESG Rating of 74.
The ratings disclosed by NHPC are:

- Crisil Core ESG Rating: 74

Crisil Conducted Independent Assessment
NHPC has specifically clarified that it did not engage Crisil ESG Ratings & Analytics Ltd for carrying out the ESG assessment.
The company said the rating agency independently prepared the report using data and information about NHPC available in the public domain.
This clarification is significant as the ratings were not obtained through a company-commissioned ESG assessment. Instead, the assessment was conducted independently by Crisil ESG Ratings & Analytics based on publicly accessible information.
Disclosure Made Under SEBI Regulations
NHPC made the disclosure in compliance with the applicable stock exchange disclosure requirements under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.
The latest communication also follows an earlier intimation issued by NHPC on August 3, 2026, concerning the ESG rating review process.
The company has now informed the stock exchanges of the ratings assigned following the review.
NHPC’s ESG Assessment Based on Publicly Available Data
Environmental, social and governance (ESG) assessments are used to evaluate companies across areas beyond their financial performance, including environmental practices, social considerations and governance-related factors.
In NHPC’s case, the latest ratings have been independently derived by Crisil ESG Ratings & Analytics using information available in the public domain.
The disclosure provides investors and other stakeholders with details of the ESG ratings assigned to the company while also making clear that NHPC itself did not appoint the agency for the assessment.
