New Delhi: NLC India Limited (NLCIL) has appointed P L S S Chaitanya Prakash as Director (Power), effective October 5, 2026. He assumed charge at the company’s registered office in Chennai. The appointment was approved by the Ministry of Coal, Government of India, to oversee and strengthen the company’s power generation operations.
His tenure will continue until his superannuation on December 31, 2029, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. The appointment is in line with the applicable provisions of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.
Prakash joins NLC India after serving as Executive Director (Operations) at Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), bringing more than three decades of experience in the power sector.
P L S S Chaitanya Prakash Brings Over 30 Years of Power-Sector Experience
P L S S Chaitanya Prakash has built an extensive career at DVC, where he held senior responsibilities across projects, power generation, operations and maintenance. His experience includes thermal power plant operations, project execution, plant performance improvement and the development of power-sector infrastructure.
Before joining NLC India, he served as Executive Director (Operations) at DVC. In this role, he was responsible for strategic operations and advancing major capital projects.
He has also held board-level responsibilities in two joint ventures:
- Green Valley Renewable Energy Limited (GVREL): A joint venture between DVC and NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL).
- DVC-CIL Power Private Limited (DCPPL): A joint venture between DVC and Coal India Limited.
His experience across power generation, operations and joint-venture governance is expected to support NLC India’s operational priorities and project development plans.

Educational Qualifications of NLC India’s New Director (Power)
Prakash is a Mechanical Engineer with professional qualifications in engineering and management.
His educational background includes:
- Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.): Completed with distinction in 1992 from Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management (GITAM), Visakhapatnam, as stated in the company’s announcement.
- Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM): Obtained from Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB), in 2007.
His technical and management education complements his experience in power plant operations, infrastructure development and organisational management.
Key Areas of Expertise: Thermal Power, Project Execution and Clean Energy
Prakash’s professional experience covers several areas relevant to NLC India’s power generation operations and energy transition plans.
Thermal Power Operations and Efficiency
He has expertise in thermal power plant engineering, boiler performance and efficiency optimisation. His experience also includes environmental compliance systems, particularly Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) and fly ash management.
Project Governance and EPC Delivery
His areas of expertise include project governance, engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) delivery, risk assessment and delay analysis for large-scale power infrastructure projects.
Renewable Energy and Energy Storage
Prakash has experience in the integration of emerging clean-energy technologies, including floating solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, pumped storage projects (PSP) and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
These capabilities are relevant as NLC India continues to strengthen its power generation portfolio while expanding its presence in renewable energy.
Appointment Expected to Strengthen NLC India’s Power Operations
Prakash’s appointment is expected to reinforce NLC India’s focus on power generation, operational efficiency and project execution. His background in thermal power operations, infrastructure development and emerging energy technologies could also support the company’s efforts to integrate cleaner energy solutions into its portfolio.
The appointment adds experienced leadership to NLC India as it pursues its power-sector objectives and expands its renewable energy activities.
The company has also stated that Prakash is not related to any other director and is not debarred from holding office by any regulatory authority.
