New Delhi: NLC India Limited (NLCIL), a Navratna public sector enterprise, inaugurated Vigilance Awareness Week 2026 under the theme “Probity for Prosperity” (सत्यनिष्ठा से समृद्धि) in accordance with the guidelines of the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC).

The programme brought together senior management, employees, contract workers, trade union representatives, stakeholders, teachers, students and members of the public to promote integrity, transparency and ethical conduct in public life and organisational operations.

The initiative focused on strengthening preventive vigilance, encouraging digital governance and building awareness about accountability and ethical practices. The inauguration also featured the launch of new vigilance-focused information technology (IT) initiatives aimed at improving transparency and strengthening governance systems.

NLC India Launches Vigilance Awareness Campaign

The day’s activities began with the flagging off of an awareness vehicle titled “The Straight Path—Today & Forever.” The vehicle featured the concept of a “Zero Currency Note” and vigilance-awareness posters to spread messages of integrity and ethical conduct across the region.

As part of the outreach programme, dignitaries also visited an exhibition showcasing floral and colour designs created by schoolchildren and members of the public. The displays highlighted themes related to probity, ethics and vigilance, encouraging community participation in promoting integrity.

The main inaugural function was held at Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam (Lignite) Hall, where participants collectively took the integrity pledge in English, Hindi and Tamil.

The pledge reaffirmed the importance of honesty, transparency and accountability in professional responsibilities and public service.

CVO Appakannu Govindarajan Highlights Preventive Vigilance and Digital Governance

Delivering the keynote address, NLCIL Chief Vigilance Officer Appakannu Govindarajan, IPoS, emphasised the importance of systemic preventive vigilance, transparent public procurement and digital governance.

He highlighted the need to modernise the company’s IT framework and address bottlenecks in contract management to facilitate the timely closure of contracts. Strengthening these systems, he noted, is important for improving operational efficiency and ensuring greater transparency in organisational processes.

Govindarajan also stated that the Ministry of Coal had appreciated NLCIL’s record in the disposal of complaints and cases.

Addressing students during the programme, he highlighted the risks associated with deepfake content and unmindful mobile-phone use. He encouraged young people to practise digital hygiene, use technology responsibly and uphold ethical values in their daily lives.

His address underlined the importance of combining technology-driven safeguards with individual responsibility to build a culture of integrity.

NLC India Introduces Vigilance-Focused IT Initiatives

The inauguration included the launch of new vigilance-focused IT initiatives aimed at strengthening transparency and accountability across the organisation.

The initiatives reflect NLCIL’s emphasis on using digital systems to support ethical governance, improve oversight and strengthen internal processes.

The programme also highlighted the importance of transparent procurement practices and effective contract management in reducing procedural bottlenecks and improving administrative efficiency.

By promoting preventive vigilance alongside digital governance, NLCIL aims to reinforce accountability and encourage employees and stakeholders to follow ethical practices in their professional dealings.

Senior NLCIL Officials Emphasise Integrity and Ethical Governance

The programme featured virtual addresses by the chief executive officers of NLCIL joint ventures NUPPL and NTPL. Special addresses were also delivered by Director (Power) P. L. S. Chaitanya Prakash and Director (Projects & Planning) R. P. Sisodia.

Presiding over the programme, Director (Human Resources) Samir Swarup emphasised that probity is essential not only for regulatory compliance but also for sustainable corporate growth and the development of public trust.

He highlighted the importance of ethical conduct in strengthening organisational credibility and ensuring that public sector enterprises remain accountable to the communities and stakeholders they serve.

The participation of senior management, employees and other stakeholders reflected the organisation’s collective commitment to promoting integrity throughout its operations.

Students Participate in Cultural Activities Promoting Integrity

Student participation was an important part of NLCIL’s Vigilance Awareness Week celebrations. Cultural performances by school students conveyed messages of honesty, ethical behaviour and vigilance awareness.

The exhibition of creative designs by schoolchildren and members of the public also provided a platform for community engagement around the theme of probity.

Through these activities, NLCIL sought to extend vigilance awareness beyond the workplace and encourage younger generations to recognise the importance of honesty, responsible digital behaviour and ethical decision-making.
